I want to install a tow hitch on my newly purchased '99 I/S.  Smiley   Installation requires removal of the saddlebags. Angry
How difficult it is to remove the OEM saddlebags from an I/S? ???   Any photos? Wink

Thanks.

I don't have photos but don't think it is anymore difficult then the Tourer. 4 bolts in each bag to remove the bags. Their is a small bracket on either side of the connecting tube to both sides at the rear of the fender for the frame of the bag holders. 3 bolts on each side for the holding brackets. 2 at the fender and 1 just behind the passenger peg/boards. The 2 at the fender rail should NOT be removed at the same time. Lossen one so it swings free enough and remove the other. Do NOT remove the second until you position everything under the 1st one and get the bolt started and then get everything under the second. Removing both can allow the under fender to twist and getting both started again will cause a lot of cussing to ensue. You probably need some spacers for the hitch but I'm sure the hitch will come with if bought new and needed. Hope this helps some even though no pics.  cooldude

SUPER EASY!!  as stated above, 4 bolts, two on the bottom, two on the upper (just below the lip).  there's no trick to it.  if you've ever changed the oil on your car, that's harder!!

The mounts have to come off too though, but it just a couple more bolts.

well, yeah, technically, and don't forget the seat, that'll have to come off for the wiring, little things will add up to bigger projects, but like i said, if you can change the oil on your car, you can do this !  it's easy to scare yourself into thinking it's something you can't do, but remember, someone else has done it, and many times they didn't have any guidance!!   word of advice, protect your paint, take your time......  Al.

If you're using the Hitch Doc, you need spacers to keep things lighned up without rubbing. If you bought a new hitch, you have them. If not, I hope you got them with your purchase. If not, Ace Hardware has metric chrome spacers/washers.
