Thank you to all that responded to my queries about my new vibration. It was indeed a bad u-joint and with Chet's link and reading all the tips from people that have replaced their u-joints the job went really smooth, got er done in bout 4 hours.  cooldude Again thanks to all.

The bike only has bout 38k on it, my 3rd Valk. The boot looked really good and flexable, but the inside of the swing arm was a little dirty and rusty looking so I think the boot might not have been completely on the swing arm and may have let some water and dirt get up in there and cause the u-joint failure. I bought the bike used and never checked the boot, but its on tight now.

Nope, after I heard this clunk noise, I felt a new vibration so I carefully rode 25 miles home, but I took the back roads and kept my speed below 50 mph. The yokes looked great, drive shaft looked great, pinion cup was greased and looked great.

Good thing you had the sense to get 'er home at a leisurely pace..from the looks of that u-joint it wouldn't have taken much to do some serious damage...that's what I call a great catch.
