Have many taken the Intermediate MSF course?  Would you recommend it?  How about the Total Control course?

I commute on the freeway 65 miles daily and can't really say my skills have improved much as a result. It doesn't take much skill to putt down the road at 70 mph. I'm looking to improve beyond surviving the commute and hopefully gaining some skills that give me a better chance when the next cage does the inevitable stupid thang.  Hell, I still have to really focus with low speed right turns - left are no problem, but for some reason tight right handers are much trickier for me.

Input?

I did the figure eight thing and friction zone stuff from the "Ride like a Pro" DVD, which I recommend.  Got me thru the endorsement cone weave with my Roadstar, which was no small feat.

In fact, when I brought the Valk out of hibernation this year the fig 8's were the first thing I did to get back in the mode.  But I forgot to bring the brain out of hibernation also and grabbed the front bake in a low speed figure 8....you know how that turned out  Embarrassed

I took it with my wife and my Dad. I'd ridden 100,000 miles before I took it. Dad had been riding for 40 years. My wife was just starting out. It was good. Nice review for me and Dad. patient with my wife. It worked well. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I've taken the ERC a number of times and yes, it's worth it.

I have trouble with left hand sharp turns. I know what to do but I don't do it.  As Danny Glover says "I'm getting too old for this s***  Smiley

Actually, I think that I'm afraid of falling.  I fell in the back yard over a month ago (no, I wasn't into the sauce) and my right leg is still not right.  I don't heal like I did in my younger days.

I took the MSF experienced rider course a few years ago. It helped. Been thinking of taking it again.

In Texas, the MSF courses qualify to legally choose helmet or not.  The courses or proof of $10K insurance.  Plus, the course can get a discount on insurance.

Of course, there's always the excuse that you want to keep your skills up, or learn new ones.

As they say, if you've been riding 20 years, it could mean you have 20 years experience.  OR, it could simply be that you have 1 year of experience repeated 20 times.

Though I've had a MC license since 1978, it wasn't until several years ago when I took the MSF beginner's course that I moved from being a "around town" rider to the well-traveled person I am now.  I've since taken the ERC twice, and plan to repeat it fairly often.

Has anyone purchased/viewed the "ride like a pro" video's? Is it worth the $40 bucks? How would you compare it to the instructor lead course? I know we all think we've "been there done that" Been riding for x-number of years etc...You all got me thinking now, could probably unlearn some bad habits!

I have their videos, love 'em.   Good refreshers, good info.

We've taken their course, as well.  I had a bad day and didn't complete the class, but Wizard did great!  First time the Houston instructors had seen a CT on a bike, and they were shocked at how well it worked.

The "Ride like a Pro" vids are great.  I also liked the book "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough.  A lot of very good info - he breaks down the physics of motorcycling. The only problem with the book is that if go through all his scenarios of what can go wrong - road hazards, traction, etc..., you may never get on a bike again.

I TAUGHT an ERC today while riding all the demo rides on my CT..... The Houston guys (many of them) will be seeing my Valk with the CT while I'm observing them for quality control this summer. Lips Sealed

I don't think you'll be seeing these guys .... they're not MSF, they're affilitated with Ride Like a Pro.
