I have a 99 standard with OEM exhaust, piggies cut, and Honda triple tips.  Is there anything inside the exhaust that can rattle something like a buzz?  (not the buzz bolt). I seem to have a buzz/rattle that sounds like something inside the exhaust but only at highway speed.

Yep.  If the previous owner tried to drill out the rear baffles before, it's entirely possible that he lost a drill bit in there.   uglystupid2

More likely he punched out the baffles with a sharpened rebar, that was common at one time.  What happens is, the sharp tip punches holes in some of the baffles, but knocks others loose.  It looks like a freeze plug, 3/4 in dia. that is now rattling around in there.  I have taken apart many exhausts and found this rattler.  You'll have to get used to it, or send me your exhaust for a mod and that problem will be gone.

Also check to see if your chrome covers have rusted loose.
I mean the clamps that hold them to the pipes.

I had that buzzing. PO said he drilled the baffles. When I was tapping the holes to replace the piggies I found this.

The exhaust pressure had it pushed right up to the hole. I had to get a hold of it with some needle nose vise grips and cut it in half to get it out.

No more buzzing!

At first I thought it was a plug left over from the manufacturing process, but as said above it might be a baffle that was punched out instead of "drilled". Makes me think there should be a few more floating around in there, but I haven't heard them. If it would be from them making the pipes, you might have the same thing. Maybe get one of those optical scopes and give your bike a muffler-oscopy. LOL

That's one of the baffles I was talking about.  They are spot-welded in.  It's possible one could fall out of the tube it's in, even without being poked deliberately.  It's really the only thing that could be inside a stock pair of pipes, and rattling.  There's nothing else in there that could come loose.
