I pulled the drive shaft and noticed this coil. It's been a while since I've had the shaft out and I don't recall seeing it. It doesn't appear in the fiche. I'm assuming it goes around the seal. Any input?  |

That spring goes around the inside lip of the seal.. It can probably be stuck back where it belongs and be OK,, but,, if you have access to a new one.........

I'm hip. I've ordered another but it sure chaps my ass that a seven dollar seal cost eight dollars to ship. I could send the thing to Australia for five bucks.  |

Do you have snap-ring pliers ?? The spring has to come off to replace the seal..

Yes, I do. I replaced the shaft and pinion cup a few years ago. My memory of the task is just slow warming up. |

I just pulled mine apart last night and found the seal had actually came clear out of the cup. Drive shaft and pinion cup both trashed. 90% of the tooth is gone. I had this all apart last year when I put the new tire on.
I can tell you the seal is very important. Spend a little more up front save a lit later.
