I pulled the drive shaft and noticed this coil.  It's been a while since I've had the shaft out and I don't recall seeing it.  It doesn't appear in the fiche. I'm assuming it goes around the seal.
Any input?

That spring goes around the inside lip of the seal.. It can probably be stuck back where it belongs and be OK,, but,, if you have access to a new one.........

I'm  hip.  I've ordered another but it sure chaps my ass that a seven dollar seal cost eight dollars to ship.  I could send the thing to Australia for five bucks.  tickedoff

Do you have snap-ring pliers ?? The spring has to come off to replace the seal..

Yes, I do.  I replaced the shaft and pinion cup a few years ago.  My memory of the task is just slow warming up.

That should be an item you get at the dealer.

Pay full retail but no shipping charges.

Save money!

I'd rather pay the extra.

I just pulled mine apart last night and found the seal had actually came clear out of the cup. Drive shaft and pinion cup both trashed. 90% of the tooth is gone. I had this all apart last year when I put the new tire on.
I can tell you the seal is very important. Spend a little more up front save a lit later.
