My speedo cable went out in Kansas the other day. I unscrewed it at the wheel and all was fine. Put it back together and noticed the cable itself pulls out of the mounting part. I shoved it back in and the speedo works. How hard is it to replace? Does it just unscrew at the gauge?

Every speedo cable I have ever replaced just pulled out of the housing be it car or bike, though I haven't changed the one on the valk I would imagine it to be the same.  Or if you want to change out the whole thing, just unscrew the housing at the speedo. So just the cable or the cable and housing, either way a simple job.

I would do the housing cause I can pull it in and out of the mount.

I just changed out my speedo cable about a week ago.  The cable both inner and outer cost was just a little more than shipping.  Remove the screw from the hub holding the cable housing, then unscrew the cable from the speedometer housing.  Reverse to install your new cable.  I went with the new complete inner and outer because I was concerned about the condition of the lining and the cost was acceptable.
