Thanks for the update Joe.  Even though it is bad news.  I will pray for Paul, but I also would like his suffering to end.  I didn't know him nearly as well as some of you, I'm sorry you all have to see your good friend go out like this.

Below is a post Paul made here on April 17 ,2012 he called it " The Long Ride Home " .

As most of you know I've been fighting cancer for almost 8 years now.  I've known for a while that it is incurable.  I'm still fighting because I don't know any other way but things are how they are.

I met with my oncologist today to discuss the results of my latest PET scan and I asked him for a time frame...(I call it my "freshness date") and he said I have about four months left.

I'm going to continue to ride and hope to see everyone at the Hillbilly Highway Run if not sooner.

It has been a pleasure and a privledge to ride with folks I've met on the VRCC.

Prayers and best wishes and an old Irish blessing.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Paul,
You are a good & decent man which I will always be pleased to have known and rode with. God has plans for you now, and I pray he doesn't let you suffer long. My friend you will be greatly missed here on earth, but we all will have fond memories of the good times and the good rides shared with you. We will meet again some day Paul, be sure to have some good routes planned for us to ride in Heaven. Love you man....

We have been enriched by Paul's presence in our life and we will be the one's who will be grieved by his passing. I trust that he knows the Lord in a personal way because that is the most important thing in his life right now. Paul's journey is not really over in my mind, it's just beginning, not much comfort in the near term but the greatest comfort as time passes. God speed to a brave man who faced his fate with dignity and grace.

Paul, you are one of the most courageous people I've ever met.  You faced cancer and didn't let it win - you are living life on your own terms.  It will never consume your spirit. I will continue lifting prayers for you and know you will continue to live your life bravely as you have been doing.
