Ok, so the race is out after much spraying/heating and prying.  The bad bearing boogered about 1/2 the inside flat part of the wheel bearing pocket.  About 1/2 is smooth and flat for the new bearing to sit flush against once it's pressed in.
Will it be OK?  Am I taking a chance? Should I replace/repair the wheel?
Any tips folks?
All parts are on order so I have a week or so to deliberate?!
Thanks,

I would think it would be ok. My rear left bearing damaged my wheel some. I went to the bearing mod so now I shouldn't have a problem for a very long time

if there is still parts of a good bore so that the two sides will align properly and you still have an inner seating surface for the bearing to seat against then there are lots of products available that you can use when you install the new bearing that will help restore some of the missing bore.  Take a look at Loc-Tite products, they offer lots of different products that may help you out. You can clean the bore with Aerosol Brake Parts Cleaner to remove any residual oil etc. if you want to use some form of anerobic material to help restore the bore area.

I'm not sure what you are trying to describe,, but,, if the bore is good and its the bore end that is damaged then it'll be ok if you make sure to install the bearing square.. Don't forget the spacer and drive or press on the outer portion of the bearing..

About 1/2/ the inner flat part of the bore is there  but the outer half of the  diameter  is boogered.
What products are out there that will restore the surface w/o welding and machining? Never heard of such a thing. Thanks for the help.  BTW I am doing the double roller upgrade..

The real question is how well the bearing will fit into the cavity.

If the bearing installs properly and the only problem is the bottom of the bore where the bearing seats there should not be a problem. Especially so if there is only a partial degrading of the lip.

There is no applied pressure on the lip since the internal spacer is designed to receive the pressure of torquing the axle nut.

The main duty of the lip is to keep the wheel from being sloppy and stopping any axial movement of the wheel. Remember there is another lip under the bearing on the other side of the wheel which is complementary to the one that you are concerned with.

The important factor is the bearing bore which needs to be a very good fit with the bearing for safety reasons.

I'm sure there are still wheels available, maybe some new unused wheels and I've seen a few used wheels on EBay that are fairly expensive and those used wheels are not indicating the condition of the bearing bores which could in fact be the reason they are being offered for sale.

You have to upload it to photobucket or one of the other picture sharing sites on the web.  That will give you a link you can then put in your post.

Not so !!!  Posting pictures is easy.

It may not be as accommodating as you would wish it to be, but I am sure the way they do it on this forum is the most widely accepted method for posting pictures.

There are more concerns to it than just the ease of posting pictures. I am sure the security issues are more important.

Photobucket is the same brouse, upload then hover the mouse over the uploaded picture and you get a pop up...attempt to highlight the box that says "direct link" and it will change to "copied"  thats the copy....then paste in the center of the double brackets that appear when you click on the image icon of a post and yer done
