Went to Sturgis a couple of weeks ago.  On the way there, we hit a "rough" area on US 83 in Nebraska.  They had repaired the road with the "chip and seal" and there were a million (or so it seemed) small pieces of gravel pinging up everywhere. When we got to the motel in Valentine that night, I noticed my right front fork oil seal was leaking pretty bad. I had fork oil all over my timing belt cover and the right exhaust headers. I had done the "film trick" about 1 1/2 years ago, and it worked.  I went to the grocery store right down the street and bought a roll of 35mm film for $3.25 and brought it back to the motel.  Took a piece of film out about eight inches long, cut it off and jammed it up into the fork leg. It was a little difficult because of the chrome shield on the fork leg and the fender, which prevented me from "going around" the fork leg like I wanted. But I worked it around the best I could. The next day, it leaked a little, and the day after that it had quit leaking completely.  Just thought I would pass this on, in case you are on a trip and your fork seal starts leaking.  I kept the roll of film and keep it with the bike now. I had film and the little Motion Pro tool back in the garage at my house (but that didn't help in Valentine, Nebraska!!!!)

Too late now, but that chrome shield comes off in about two minutes.  Its got two studs on it with nuts on the inside of the fender - 10mm wrench takes 'em right off.  Glad to hear you fixed it.

I did the same thing with a thin grocery store loyalty card. Cut a "hook" in it and stopped the leak.

I can't picture it! Sorry I think it needed to be said.

Thanks for the tip.

I carry exposed films, never had to use them.
