I bought a new Yuasa battery from the dealer last month (7/21/12) . It has been turning over really fast and starting intstantly. Well it stranded me at work last week, turned over noticably slower and then nothing not even a click. Just like the key was off. Had to trailer it home. Putting a battery charger on it, it starts instantly as before but will not restart if charger is disconnected after engine is off. Disconnecting charger and then turning engine off it will NOT restart. With charger it will restart good but without it will not , it pulls down to 6.69 volts under load while trying to start. Alternator is putting out 14.57 volts so that isnt the problem. I installed the old battery that was turning over slow but will start bike and it starts good, just spins slow. There is nothing pulling battery down while off I checked for a drain there isnt one. Everything checks out good. Sure looks like a bad "new" battery to me. Anyone ever encounter this ? I guess you get a bad one sometimes. First time the old girl EVER stranded me, it is a '98 tourer I bought new. Going to dealer tomorrow with reeceipt and battery in hand. It has one year waranty.

RJ..the dealer put the charge on the new battery , well..they said they did. I went to pick it up and they said I had to come back 4 hours and it would be ready, so I assume they did. It was good to find out it wasnt the bike but the battery, they are easy enough to install. Dealing with a battery is nicer than a problem with the Valk.

I have Yuasa, purchased at good price online a couple of years ago, poured the acid in myself, charged it myself. Know it's done correctly. I'm not quite so anal with the whole process as this video but trust myself more than dealer or seller.

Seems like if it will recharge from a battery charger to full strength, then the battery is good. Could it be that your alternator's charge is not getting to the battery properly? A bad battery will not charge up to full power any kind of way.

Hey shooter, I pulled out the new battery and installed the old battery I replaced with new one it starts just fine..spins slow but starts and runs great. Reinstalled new battery and nothing ..reinstalled old one and starts good, just turns over very slow but starts. No it is battery issue for sure. Alternator puting out 14.59 volts, first thing I checked. New battery would only start if a charger is hooked up , anyway..I have new battery and all is good.

ding ding ding we have a winner!! a 4 hour charge? every battery i've ever bought for a bike says 12 hours and a trickle charge. except for the gel cells. bet they burnt it up. |
