When riding one of the new goldwings, does one feel much of the engine heat? How hot is the bike to ride due to blocking off a lot of wind? Is the windscreen adjustable like on the ST1300 to where it can be lowered to allow more airflow? Is handling on the wing better than the Valk? How about the overall "grin" factor when riding a wing? thanks....

Yes, and yes...if you're comparing the stock Valk suspension to the stock Wing suspension. Put a different set of fork springs and shocks on the Valkyrie - along with a good set of tires - and it's a different story. I like the new Wing and -might- own one again some day. Sold all my GL1100s and GL1200s for Valkyries, but the GL1800 ain't your grandfather's 'Wing by a long shot.

Heat, yep. Put Baker wings on to dissipate some of the heat. Windscreen is manually adjustable can't change it on the move. Handling is going to be debated. I think yes. It's certainly faster.

So are you sayin' that the Wing is just as hot as the Valk.....because Valks is hot.  Not as hot to look at. The Wing is a Tupperware monster. About 90 minutes just to change the air filter.

I don't find the Wing as comfortable as the I/S. This will be the third summer trip where the '06 Wing sits home in the barn while the '99 I/S goes cross country. I switched to an Ultimate seat a few months ago, made the bike much more comfortable than it was. I'm still taking the Valk ...

I like the "look" of the Valk much better than my Wing. The Wing is a little hotter but Baker Air Wings help a lot. Heat is sometimes good. I ride my Wing is much colder weather than I did my Valk. I my opinon the Wing handles better and has better brakes. The thing I like the most is the range. On my standard I would swithch to reserve at 130 miles. I was always the one who had to stop for fuel and had to plan fuel stops. On the Wing at 130 miles I still have 1/2 tank. I never worry about fuel, I am the last one that has to stop.
As I have said before, your asking about a Wing on a Valk board, go to GL1800riders.com and ask the same question, there are a lot of Valk riders there too.

I own & ride both. An '05 Wing, GL 1800, & a '00 Valk Standard
1. I've ridden both motorcycles in extreme heat, 100+ dgs, & engine heat is not a problem on either.
2. All 1800 Wings have a manually adjustable windscreen, & my windscreen on the 1800 has a vent that can be opened for more air to be directed on the rider. This vent also allows critters to be directed into the riders face alongwith the air.
3. IMO the GL1800 is easier to ride quickly on on roads such as THE DRAGON, & lo speed handling is also easier than on the Valk. The Valk is no match for the GL1800 in acceleration.
4. In inclement or cold weather the GL1800 is my choice.
5. The Valk is the winner in ease of maintaince
6. IMO the Valk wins in the GRIN FACTOR & is more "fun" to ride. The Valk definitly wins in the WOW category.
I've also ridden an I/S for several thousand miles & IMO the GL1800 would be my choice, but the I/S definitly gives the mst bang for the buck. happy trails, the hobo

I own 3 Valks, a Rune and a GL1800 ABS Wing. IMHO the Wing just does everything better, is more comfortable and more weather protection & creature comforts.
Every time I get on the Wing I say "WOW, what a great bike".
HOWEVER, 90% of the time, the Wing gets left at home. There's just a feeling you get on the Valk that no other motorcycle can duplicate, and to me, it's the feeling I like when I'm riding.
Oh, and the Valk is like a tank in cross winds, the Wing can be a hand full.......
