Well it finally happened my Dyna took a dump and I am tired of this. Dont get me wrong I really liked my Dyna 3000 when it was working but after 3 failures in 6 years (not including the 2 to set the bike up) I have had enough. All I would need is this thing to fail me when I was away from home and that would really piss me off. So I decided to go to a interstate icm and back to the timing wheel. When I first bought the bike I put on a 6 degree wheel and thats when I decided I really didn't like the way the bike felt and looked for something different like the Dyna 3000. So off with the 6 wheel on with the stock and install the Dyna, 2 units later I got it running good. That was until recently just couldn't get the thing to work correctly even with a exchanged unit. Let me just say that I like the Dyna and when it works its great and some bikes have no problem at all. Just some like mine there is a problem. I have even helped Dyna with the repair which did get the unit to work on most bikes. I called Dyna and was told that all that they have in stock they will sell and that they will not be making any more so when those are gone thats it. Our bikes are not profitable like the atvs that are their bread and butter right now. So in my frustration today I pulled my old 6 wheel and looked at it and at the points on the wheel and thought about the problems that some do have with them and how I didn't like the feel of the 6 and maybe a 4 wheel would be better. I also wanted this now and didn't want to spend on a wheel that wasn't just right with the teeth. I also thought how some have made the timing advance thing with the resistor and thought to bad this thing doesn't have a distributor to adjust the timing. So apart the front came and I looked at the differences in the wheels one over the other and low and behold a idea a really good one easy to do and would make a adjustment like a distributor. Take 65 thousands off the tab that holds the wheel on the key way in the crank. When I did this I was able to move the thing to advance the timing mines set to go to 7 degrees or back to stock or anywhere in between just by loosening the crank bolt and twisting the wheel and retightening the bolt. Almost like a distributor. Takes about 10 minutes to do and the results have been very good. I can dial the advance I want and then lock it down. No problems no timing wheel no extra money and because its a stock wheel no problem with the teeth or working with the stock ignition or even with the Dyna for that matter. I also changed the belts at this time with the ones from NAPA, thanks Jeff for the tip worked perfect and the belt is listed as Honda motorcycle in the application guide. I didn't think that it would be the case and list some car as a app. The bike runs great and I can have peace of mind about replacing the belts and the total out of pocket without the icm is 60.00. When the interstate icm gets here install it and then that will be it. This all started because the other day I was enjoying my new custom seat, the day and the ride then it all started with a little miss. Grin

If you search the old tech archives, someone did come up with an adjustable timing mod.

I modded my stock wheel for 7 degrees of hard advance this spring.  I also added the the Dyna, running curve 7 in the retard mode and the unit grounded with the full 10 degrees of retard.  When I get to cruising speed, I flip the switch on the bar and add the 10 degrees of advance back.  I am getting 40 miles per gallon now, cruising at 70 to 75, instead of 31 that I used to on my 97 standard

Well I thought that I was being original  Sad Since I have owned the bike I have always had the Dyna so I really never looked for options on what to do with the wheel. You really have it played out right, I wish I could keep my Dyna I really liked it but I am not willing to go through the hassles any more. Thanks guys cooldude
