I have for 12 years the OEM windshield standing up agaisnt the wall of my cellar....

Did use it only once - but I did not like the vieuw through the curved surface - cars get smaller or taller etc. , took it simply off.

Do you guys use the standard heigth or did you saw an upperpiece off - at what height should it be compared to your eyes when sitting normally ??

Thanks for your input before I go sawing into my windshield  Lips Sealed

of us have done before cutting/chopping up the shield is to make a couple short [2 or 3 inch] brackets.. Install them at the bottom mounting location. This will kick/push the bottom of the windshield forward, thus lowering the shield several inches.. Some folks that have decided to cut the shield use either a hand saw, jig/saber saw, and then hand sand or file to finish.. Use painting or masking tape to keep from scratching things..

The windshield should be cut so that you are looking just over the top of it when you are in your "normal" riding position.  A trick I use to find this dimension is to make several marks about 1/2" (13mm) apart starting at the top of the windshield and then going down.  Take the bike for a long ride and as you are looking out ahead of you, notice the mark that is just below your line of sight.  This is where you will cut the windshield.

As Patrick said, protect the windshield surface with some tape in the area where the saw will be against it.  It also helps to put tape on the bottom of the saw plate.  Run the saw slowly and make sure the plastic does not get hot.  If it gets too hot, it will melt and weld itself back together right behind the saw blade.

Finish the edge with some sand paper.  Good luck  cooldude

O.K. THANKS FOR THE INPUT AND ADVICE.

I will mount the shield, make different marks ad do the test till the exact heigth is known.

Then make a paper of the topshape - cutt this shape out of the paper and then lower till I am at the desired hight.

Drawing a new line where it has to be cut - and mask to protect from scratches of the jigsaw.

Don't cut it until you try moving the lower bracket forward! 2 ways, make some brackets to move the bottom of the windshield forward a bit. I found 1 inch forward did the trick. Another method I used was to bend the lower bracket forward an inch, I used the wooden handle of my hammer to pry it forward. I say do the lower bracket mod first because it is fast and easy and if it doesn't work for you it will be easy to return it to normal THEN you can consider cutting. Good Luck and ride safe!  Cool

Moving the bottom forward does not work if you have Cobra lights.  The shield hits the lights almost where it is now, will not go ahead any more.

You could just order a new ClearView windshield.  They've got 'em in all kinds of different sizes, heights, widths.

I did the short brackets at the bottom on my tourer and it really helped the height  problem and buffeting. seems about an in between the holes worked great.

i cut my original windshield because of the same issues. I think it looked better on the bike and I liked being able to see over the top. In rainstorms I felt like I lost a lot of protection, though. A couple years ago I picked up a new OEM replacement shield and then made little brackets to slant, as pictured by Sandy and others on this site. By the way, I do have a Cobra lightbar, and had no problem with this mod. I liked that better than cutting the top in terms of wind/rain protection. Replacing my Corbin seat, which lowered me an inch or so, with an Ultimate seat which is much taller made for the best solution for me. With the Ultimate Big Boy ( not Low Rider) I can see straight over the top with the shied in factory position.

Another benefit for me is a bit more leg room, and a more comfortable stance when stopped.

I cut my winshied of at least 8 inches - so I can see over the top.
No problem in case of rain and the air flows over the Helmet.
