Can get the splines to mate up while reinstalling the rear wheel I have followed the power point and my final drive bolts are hand tight but this is a mother ! Feels like the bike is going to flop on me as it is still on the stand. Tried a few gently taps with a rubber mallet, lots of shaking but nothing.....is there a trick? The axle is though the wheel right now and into the swing arm no bolt on it just to help hold the wheel. Can I put the bolt on and drive the splines into eachother safely? I dunno need some advise please

You said "bolt" but don't you mean the axle "nut?" Put the bike in gear so the splines in the final drive won't turn while you're trying to engage the splines from the wheel. Good luck!

If you replaced the O-Rings while it was apart, the resistance you're having is against those new O-Rings. Do you have a thin layer of grease on them to help them slide into place? If so, that's about all you can do. You can't use the nut on the end of the axle to pull it in - the swingarm won't flex like that.
Use your knee to hold the final drive in place and grip the tire on either side (as close to 3 and 9 as you can get) and pull it into place.

How much molly or grease did you put on the splines? A good coating is required, but if it's a quarter inch thick it will prevent the wheel going on fully. Too much lube will build pressure in the hub. Fred.

Okay, yes new o rings with moly and thrust washer, I used a small detail paint brush to apply the moly. Its not too thick. I did not think to put the bike in gear I will try that.
Yep I think it was the put the bike in gear idea....worked awesome. This thing is like a new machine with the new Avons, shock bushings...wow. Sticky and responsive.

I agree.....and I apologize for not saying it last night as I was excited to get out for a quick spin with all the new work, thank you everyone for your personal time and help. Everyone here is so helpful and most have first hand experience so its easy for a less experienced member to communicate their concerns ie: see above bolt/axle nut reference (haha).
Thanks Danny

And you saved the 4 bolts on the drive shaft side to tighten last-right?? The torquing sequence is extremely important. RIDE SAFE.

Yeah, these guys are great! I like to tinker on the bike and at times may get in over my head. The info here is invaluable. Maintaining the bike is a lot easier. I've been gearing up to check the drive shaft splines after seeing it mentioned here. I never would have thought of that. I hope I can help someone out myself some day.

I tightened the 4 final drive bolts after tightening the axle and installing the brake caliper. Then installed the the shocks and released the tie down holding up the swing arm because I went over the top of the exhaust with the axle. Took her off the lift and went for a quick spin. Everything still sound good? Or should I have taken it off the lift with rubber on the ground then tightened the final drive bolts?

Where do you guys get your tire mounted and balanced?
The bike shops in my area refuse. One tire shop said he could not adapt the motorcycle wheel to his balancer. Thanks.

Ran into this at mom & pop bike shops, they often (erroneously) say it's not needed if you line up the dots on the tire correctly so they don't have a spin balancer or balance them. All manufacturer Bike Shops I've visited have and use a "bike" spin tire balancer. That being said, I mount and dismount my own tires with a Harbor Freight Tire changer and the motorcycle attachment. For balancing, I use the ceramic or glass beads available from any tire repair supply house. I hear good things about the puncture sealant products that also bead up for balancing but have no experience with them. If you have your own changer, you can repair flats per the manufacturer guidelines for the specific tire. Bike shops near me won't repair flats.

Down here in the Ozarks my Honda dealer wants $50.00 per wheel if i bring it in AND sign a waiver releasing them from all responsibilty. On the other hand i have a custom chopper shop that charges $20.00 per wheel that i bring in. And Honda won't let me watch the process while my chopper shop lets me into the work area. Check around and ask them or mention EXACTLY what you need done. Good luck on yer quest. RIDE SAFE.
