The Valks (like most other Hondas) have a wet clutch.  That means you REALLY have to be careful what oil you use much less adding additives to it.  I run Mobil 1 15W50 in my bike and haven't had a problem.

I haven't found one good additive, yes Marvel is good but not as a consistent add. I would step up to a better oil that should be additive enough. But if you are doing it and expect to see dramatic differences forget it small yes dramatic no. Maybe a bit quieter and easier shifting but usually thats about it.

Modern good oils, whether dino or synthetic required NO additives of any kind.

I assume when you say the Regular Honda oil you are referring to the dino oil and not their synthetic blend? Oil has come a long way over the years and additives are not really needed depending on the type of oil that you buy. As Honda does not manufacture its own oil (labeled for Honda) you have a few Valk friendly oils that already have the additives to them, not referring to the dreaded "Friction Modifiers" that are a huge No-No for wet clutches. By the way ALL Mobil 1 products now have the friction modifiers in the additives thanks to the old epa.   tickedoff

If you want to do the research on synthetic oils and their ingredients there is plenty of reports on the web. For example http://www.vfrworld.com/tex_vfr/tech/oil.htm

Bottom line? Save some bucks and buy another brand that has what you want and nothing that you don't want i.e. Rotella T Synthetic.   cooldude

I would strongly argue against using an additive in your cycle.  As stated earlier, your clutch/tranny uses the same oil as your engine.  Now, with that being said, you've got to ask yourself if that "engine" additive will affect your "tranny"?

BTW, I use Mobil 1 in my vehicles, and Amsoil 20w-50 in the Valk.  I'm not sold on the stupid price of Amsoil, but I do want the best for my girl...

I'd like to know more about peoples opinions on using Mobil 1, it's easier to find and is more affordable then Amsoil, I’d rather use Mobil 1 myself but a good mechanic friend says I should use Amsoil…..

excellent article Airetime!  thanks for posting!

now i have a question, is it okay to change from one brand to another?  the previous owner of my cycle used Pennsoil from day one, is it okay for me to use something different?

I would suggest an intermediate step when changing from a Dino to a synthetic or visa-versa.  That would be to use a blended oil as the intermediate step.

Changing from Penzoil to Brand XYZ is not a problem at all.  Cool
