How do you know if you need to get the carbs sync?

I don't think there is any sure fire method other than vacuum gauges to determine that.

There are several hints that signal a carburetor synchronization might be in order but there can be other reasons for the same symptoms.

It is easier to determine with a stock configured motorcycle as/when compared to a modified motorcycle.

Does this critter idle smoothly ?? When working the throttle easily does the engine speed increase smoothly and readily ??  If so,, everything would seem fine to me.. If not,, then a sync sure wouldn't hurt.. These carburetors are not known for going out of adjustment [ unless someone that doesn't know what they are doing has been screwing around with them].. Honda got this right and these are pretty bullet-proof..

Usually, it's good to sync after any air/fuel system alterations...

Muffler change, Valve Job, De-Smog, etc. etc. etc.

Other than that, sync 'em once and forget 'em.

Its at a dealer to sell.  I happened to walk in .  someone was looking at it and said it needs a sync job I spoke up and said it got checked out when I bought it and it was OK.  Looker said well it doesnt sound like mine. I have no issue with it,  it gets up AND goes without a hiccup.

no it was his wifes and they rode in with a V-star.   Was thinking about this today,  I wonder if it wasnt a ploy to get the $$$$$$ down.   Oh well time to move on.
