At the Ride for Kids my bike started acting up so I missed the ride  Sad.  When the ride was about to begin my bike stalled  tickedoff.  It took a couple tries to get it started but the bike was not responsive like it normally is.  I would twist the throttle a little and a few seconds later it would respond.  If I gave it a good twist it would respond slowly and die.  Chauffeur said it may be the petcock which is what I will try but if anyone has experienced this please let me know.

I have never rebuilt the petcock but it looks like the hardest part is getting it off the tank.

Any advice is appreciated.

Did you try it with the gas cap open?

No, I will try that tonight.  If it runs fine does that mean it is a vaccum line problem?

If it runs better/ok with the gas cap open it means a clogged or pinched vent line.

If the petcock is failing opening the gas cap won't change much.

Not hard to rebuild. Order a filter as well as the cover set.

Is the bike stored periodically? The carbs might be gummed up??  Undecided  Definitely sounds like a gas issue.

I ride it year round.  I got home late tonight and started it and it ran okay.  I will play around with this week and see what I can find.

Do u have an in line fuel filter?  I've seen 'em get dirty, the dirt falls out to the bowl and all is well until something stirs up the sediment and clogs it.

You got home OK?  i.e., it ran fine on the way home, or slow throttle response?  The fact that it started fine last night hints to me that it's a vent line issue, and it's getting intermittently pinched, or perhaps that it hadn't had enough time to build up a vacuum in the tank.  Either way, try running it with the gas cap open, or with a zip tie or something propped in the cap.  Might take a while of riding to verify that's the solution, though.  I would hope that a prescription of "ride it" wouldn't be a problem, though.  (:
