Alternator went out on my 99 I/S. What is the purpose of the condenser? Did the continuity test described in the Honda manual. Apparently it is bad. I don't see it in the HDL parts fish. Need help/advise/U'r experience.

The condensor (actually, a 0.25 uF, 200WVDC capacitor) serves to filter noise pulses from the alternator, thus keeping "whine" out of your stereo.
How did you test the condensor to determine if it was bad? Unless it fails "shorted", there is no way to verify the component's condition short of using an RLC bridge or capacitance meter.
As far as a replacement - I posted a Honda P/N in a recent thread involving noise suppressors. ~$6 from HDL.

noise filter and as he said, unless it shows a short with a multimeter set to read ohms on a low scale it is probably o.k.

All is well with my 99 I/S. Rode out to Ken Heming's today & exchanged my dead stock alternator for a rebuilt high output one.
Why order parts when U get a 1 yr. guarantee & the unit is ready to install.
30 mins. to get it back in the bike.
