What about the guys out there rockin the woody's? I think it's a little wider than the MS. Maybe less buffet?

Do you have lowers on your forks? The buffeting is most likely from the air coming "under" the fairing, Baker air wings eliminated the buffeting on mine.

Personally, I've only ever seen 2 fairings that look good.  Factory fairings on Wings and IS's.

I have to agree on the Bakers.  I have a half helmet that practically starts buffeting when it's 10 feet from the bike.  The Bakers can be made to stop it cold, and still pass some air if you want.

I've got a Woodys fairing.  Used to have an OEM shield on the bike.

For protection, it don't get any better than the OEM shield IMHO.  If you want to ride behind dead air, get the OEM shield.

The Woody, or other batwing fairings will cut the air better.  The OEM shield is a brick wall.

The Woody has it's benefits IMHO, that out-weigh the OEM shield (at least for me)........4 speaker stereo (you install your own head unit), the ability to have and use different windshields (different heights, different colors, different styles, etc).....changing windshields just by losening 3 bolts, etc.

I can have all the air with my 4" shield, some air with my 6" shield, not much to no air with my 10" shield (my 6" and 10" shields have a re-curve at the top.....makes a huge difference....it's like the shields are taller than they actually are).

Couple the different shield options with a set of bakers, and you can get pretty good protection....not the best, but pretty darn good......but the thing is, you can modify the protection you want really easily and quickly with the Woody.

However, as someone already said, most of the air that you are probably getting is coming from under your MS batwing fairing.

MS (as well as other sources) offer lowers and fork deflectors.  You might want to check into them before you spring for another fairing.

btw.......That Rifle fairing is seriously beyond ugly.  If I wanted to lower the resale value of my bike, I'd put one of those things on it.   Wink

2funny It is ugly I agree! I have seen one locally, that is custom painted to match the bike and even though it's still different ............. it doesn't look all that bad.
I have heard that they are about as good as it gets in a fairing.

I have posted about lowers here before and I had them on my Suzuki. I actually have a set of NC lowers that I bough from a member here.

I wasn't told that I would need to get a NC lightbar to go with them as you use the OEM signal mounts to mount the top of the lowers Roll Eyes and that ain't going to happen.  tickedoff
The MS batwing looks good and has a nice feeling to it as it allows air to hit you and not block it all out like a windshield.  Except for the buffeting that occurs at times, maybe due to wind direction or speed, I like what I have. The buffeting when it happens is almost violent ......... to the point you can't focus your eye's.

I'll mess around with the lowers idea before making a move to change the fairing, but I was hoping that someone here might be using one of the Rifle units and could give a report.

That is a very 'attractive' fairing; a made you look type of attractive. I have a Memphis Shades Batwing and found more buffeting with the original Clearview windshield than I do with the fairing. That being said, I have to lowers, the tallest windshield that Memphis Shades sells and the fork mounted lowers which I can pitch and adjust how much air I want to move. Lots of things contribute to buffeting, riding posture, highway peg positions.

You might try the fork lowers or the Baker wings, but in my mind, it has more to do with how much air moves below the windscreen (whichever type you have) and over the fuel tank and how you can control that flow. My $.02.

Thanks!

There are two designs made to fit the Valkyrie. I know a guy that has two Valks and each one has the one or the other fairing offered here by "Rifle". I'm sure he is a member here as I have seen the website crest in his shop.
The one I am asking about is supposed to be the most efficient and aero dynamic one made by anyone.
Here's the links for each fairing.

Ditto that.  I'm using the MS batwing with MS fork deflectors.  Zero buffeting coming from below.  Highly recommended!

For me it would depend on my usage of the Valk. If you want it to be a showbike & have people drooling all over it like some do, these wouldn't be my choice. However, if you do a lot of traveling on the open road, I would pick what would make the ride "most comfortable", opinions be cursed. I have seen those Rifle fairings and the pictures don't really do them justice.
I had a Rifle Sport fairing on a Yamaha Maxim X years ago and it was great. The workmanship and mounting hardware was top notch.
So get what ya want and enjoy it. As you can tell, I'm a "function over form" type of person.
