I am posting this in response to a request by Houdini, I believe...

In my quest to ride every paved road in West Texas, I road a new road last Saturday.

FM 674... which begins just southwest of Rocksprings along US 377 and ends in Brackettville.  (BTW... the Shell station in Rocksprings makes a MEAN breakfast taco!  Wolfed with gusto, standing at my tailbag in a steady sprinkle!  A totally awesome morning! )

FM 674 is a 58 mile slice of western hill country heaven pie... the "Not So Twisted Forgotten Step Sister..."

The northern portions look very similar too and has just about the same topography as the western leg of the Twisted Sisters. (FM 335?)

The middle section around Kickapoo State Caverns is transitional Texas scrub and by the time you finally get down to the Alamo Village it is pretty typical south Texas plains.

None the less... a great ride.  In the entire 58 miles I only passed 2 cars headed the opposite direction... 0 motorcycles... no gas stations or stores of any kind!  Totally worth the time!

Been there done that, three times, but you need to start in Junction on Hwy 377 south to FM674 in Rockspring. 377 will not be what you would expect if you saw the beginning in Delrio. Once it passes Rockspring toward Junction it is really scenic in the valleys.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I see you have good taste Red Diamond...

That was exactly my ride... west out 290 to exit 477 at I-10... then I rode the super slab to Junction and nosed south on US 377.  I had ridden and done write ups on the section of US 377 between Rock Springs and Junction.  I agree wholeheartedly... that run north form Hwy 41 to Junction is a latent jewel.

Ya know... there are piles and piles of cool roads out there.  I have often holed up in Sanderson for days at a time just to ride the lonesome roads lower Stockton Plateau for a few days...

Thanks for the reminder on the numbers.

We never did get around to you riding the 1800.  If you're up this way, you're welcome to try her out.
