I have read several posts on this subject and, apparently, there is a lot of opinions out there (as always) Wink as to what products to use to get the bugs and grime off our shields.
I don't doubt that there are many products that would be harmful such as products containing ammonia and, maybe, other harmful chemicals.
Many go with hot water and a rag which would be the safest for obvious reasons.

I read on another forum several years ago that Lemon Pledge was the way to go and most people on this forum did use Lemon Pledge. I have used it for eight (Cool years with absolutely no damage on three different shields. All Memphis Shades. I checked label and LP does NOT have any ammonia.
Lemon Pledge works wonderfully for me and I feel very safe with it thanks to eight years of "experimentation".

to cut the bugs, use hydrogen peroxide -- WalMart usually has smallish pump spray bottles of it.  Spray it on liberally and wait a minute, bugs wipe off with almost no effort.  Follow up with Plexus or which ever polish you choose.

I figure if I'm not having to work at getting them off, I'm not scratching my windshield as badly when I remove them.

I know a lot of people swear by Honda Plexus, but it turned my windshield in to a smokie mess.
Not after one use... but after repeated use. Honda-line windshield.

Great for painted stuff and chrome.... but I will NEVER use it again on a windshield.... worst door prize ever! Thanks a lot Jeff, for the advise!!!!! "Even great on pancakes".... Maybe, but not windshields!

Plexus is not a Honda product!

I won't use Honda Polish on any part of my bike again, but Plexus is made of windshields, I've used it on many windshields of different manufacturers with no issues.

But, we all have our favorites.  I was just suggesting you try the Peroxide to help get the bugs off.  After that, you WILL need to clean the windshield of the smearing, but I find that it cleans easily.

This was on the board a few years ago.  Seems like the poster said he found it on a Goldwing forum.  I've been doing it for years.

Take an ordinary bath towel, soak it, get it good and wet in the hottest water you can stand to touch (Doesn't have to be scalding, just good and hot).  You can wring it out some, it doesn't have to leave a trail on the way to the bike, but should be more than just damp.  Drape over/lay on your shield.  Let it stay for 10-15-20 min. (Experiment with the time, few bugs could take 10 min., heavy bugs might be the 20 min.)  The bugs wipe off with the towel.  Cheap, easy, painless (unless the water is too hot).

I have a Memphis shield and have been using Plexus all this time after the cleaning and drying with no problems.

Also, since the worse-half has departed, I can use any towel I want.  My favorite is the one with her initials.  Cheesy

Dan,  I've used almost nothing but aerosol Lemon Pledge on my bikes since 2001 for shining them up between annual waxing.  It can be used on all plastics, paint, and chrome on the bike with no ill effects.  I don't use it on the wheels and tires though.

It contains parafinic wax which is essentially the canning wax my grandmother used to seal jelly and jam with.  It's also used as an additive to candies and as a laxative.

Thanks for reinforcing my experience with LP. I also use it as a spot cleaner/wax on other parts of bike.

Sorry to confuse the two..... me and a close friend both had bad experiences with Honda Polish and windshields.... I really can't speak to Plexus..... sorry for any disruption to your post.....

I use limon endust on all of the surfaces of the bike. Cleans my clear view up with no issues at all and does not streak.  Pulls them bugs that have been on there since last ride right off.   I also use it for cleaning the chrome and polishing the painted bits. Works great and also pulls the dust right off.

Good to know.
I would think that Endust and Pledge have same ingredients.
