Got mine from cycle gear, was close to 100 dollars. But don't know how you could do it , without the tool.

You can make one out of brass tubing. Fairly easy. Sorry, don't know the diameter needed. Anyone?

Okay, got off my dead arse and got the mics out.
I measured the brass tubing: approx. .220" OD and approx. .180" ID . You then take a pair of needle nose pliers and insert it into the tube end, squeeze to make a flat section on the tubing so that it looks like a " D ". The tubing piece should be maybe 1 1/2" long, fashion a handle of some sort (I used a screw/nut combination) to the unflattened end and put a mark on it for reference when you start making the turns.
Don't over tighten the pilot screws when bottoming them, or it'll cost you!

Art, Here is what I and a lot of others use. It is a bit that you can place in a socket. Also, go to tech board and search Motion Pro and read posts about adjusting pilots. Good Luck. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0242/
