Not sold yet. Feels a little squirmy to me, and I'm not as confident with the bike as I was before. Feels weird going over small bumps and on slight inclines. General Altimax HP @ 42 psi. I've got an overnight trip in a couple weeks. I'll have a pretty good idea by the time I get back as to whether I'm gonna keep it or not.
Rear brakes feel better and it's a smoother ride.

Give it some time/miles and play with the pressure. I'll bet you get it dialed in.

Agree with the above... Took about 200-500 'till I was feeling comfortable, around 1,000 I couldn't even tell anything was different anymore...
But also do try fiddling with the pressure some, I found that to help a lot, especially while I was getting used to it.

Here's the deal... it causes the back end to bounce and wiggle around a bit from time to time on irregular road surfaces. Ignore it.... easy to say, but it works.

I'm sure I'll get used to it, these are just first impressions. Previously, I'd never gone more than a few miles at a time on a CT. When a MC tire acts the same way it means something's wrong... I know the CT is OK, but it's still a weird feeling fighting my instincts when I notice the differences. I cleaned and lubed everything from the output shaft back on Sunday, and I don't plan on doing anymore work back there for another 10k. Like it or not, I'll keep it until then. I'm guessing I'll be more than happy with it by that time.
For those running the Altimax, what pressure are y'all having success with?

definitely play with the tire pressure until you get it tuned in just right. So far, 40 lbs is working for me. I've been lower and higher, but 40 feels right.

I had mine on for 23k miles. I kept the pressure around 40 to 45 lbs. I am 6'1" 220 and I had the shocks set on stiffest setting. When I rode I noticed the same things on mine. I had only rode about 4k miles before I switched to Ct so I never really had a feel for the MT. The ride was a little different especially on uneven or painted roadways. Cornering felt a little different as well, but it is something you get used to. The CT has the advantage over the MT in Price and longevity but with it comes the different ride. If you can get used to the change, the CT is a good investment, if not you will just have to get used to buying a 200.00 tire every 8-10k instead of 150.00 tire every 20-25 k. its all personal preference. Currently I changed back to a Mettzler 880 to see how much difference in ride it is in comparison. I will be headed down to Lonestar 2 up, When I get back I will let you know if the feel is that much different.

When I bought my interstate (MC Tire) I rode my standard (CT) over for a test ride. After riding the standard onto it's second car tire, I took the IS for a ride and almost didn't buy it because I thought there were major issues with it (rode like crap). Ended up buying it and switching it over to a CT, fixed the ride right up. Currently running the Austone taxi tire on it. I'll never go back to a MST.

I try to run at 44psi. I'm 2 up alot and pull my trailer on the long trips. I tried lower pressures but it seems more wiggly to me. It could be all in my head too.

I use different pressures for different kinds of riding; 36 - 38 when cruisin' the hood or going back and forth to work and 42 when I know I'll be riding her hard or in the twisties. One size does not fit all...

My Falken is wearing in the middle and I run 42-44 in it all the time. I like the way it rides 1up or 2up. I have a couple of spares in the garage, so it's no biggie to me. I have about 16-17k miles on it and it will go another 2k. I will swap it out before it becomes dangerous. $89 tire shipped to my door for a tire I really like is a good deal to me. YMMV. See ya in Galveston TXFireman! Hay Jimmyt

Hey Chris , like you said it feels different , and it is different the C/T has a different personality than a M/C tire ... I did alot of reading and I finally decided to go Darkside ... it felt great to me but the turning into a parking lot was the eye opener for me at the time ... but now after 23,500 miles I don't give the bumps , uneven asphalt or any imperfections in the road a second thought .... I myself WILL NEVER go back to a $265.00 M/C AGAIN !!! The only thing I had to play with was the air pressure , because sometimes it would feel squirrely & other times BAM , BAM , BAM to harsh .... so now I run 34 lbs. solo in the warm months and 38 lbs. in the winter , because in the winter the tire pressure will air down .... I'm using a Michelin Pilot 205-55-16 and it does not have a very aggressive trad pattern so I don't get that swaying from side to side like some do with a more aggressive trad pattern ... Hey Chris Welcome to the Darkside and enjoy that C/T .... Thanks the Geezer

+1 for the Falken. I run 38-40 psi I am about ready for another. don't know the milage, it is a lot. I will go get another in a few thousand miles. the middle is down to the wear bars, but I'm still riding on it. Blotar
