I joined the unemployment world today. I started 3 years ago with this company building custom electrical panels. This company went from being an excellent company to work for to being a crap hole that treated their employees like dirt. This has been building up for the past 6 months so I started looking for alternative employment. Finally found a company that one of my good friends is running. Back to what I love doing, operating heavy equipment. twice the pay, full benifits, and company truck. I have been off work for 2 days from a back injury. Went to work today, gave the secretary my doctors slip and she started in on me. Told me I was lazy and worthless and if she had her way I would be gone. We have never gotten along anyway. So I said well let me make it easy for you, I QUIT. Went out in the shop and told the owner I was done and told him what happened. we went back in the office and she said she wasnt a secretary and I said yeah well your a bitch. The owner informed her that she is a secretary and she will not talk to his employees the way she did me. He begged me to stay, offered me quite a bit more money. I said that all sounds good but until she is gone I wont even consider it. It will be a couple weeks before I start the new job. So I will have some time to put new windows in the house and finish some trim in the house that I havent had time to do.

Glad you have a good set of skills. As long as someone needs something built, they need equipment operators. Good operators are hard to find.  Our construction managers at the sites are always looking for someone that really knows what the are doing.

Id like to think I can do a little of everything and a whole lot of nothing  Grin   I have been operating heavy equipment for 10 years. Its what I truly like to do, one of my passions. Then being an electrican is a bonus trade, nice to know when you need it. I have a meeting with the new company in the morning. The guy that is starting it has built several mulit million dollar businesses, so if anyone knows how to run a company and make money it is him.

Additional skills is a GOOD GOOD thing. Glad you will be back in the working world soon.
I'd hate to have to buy that Valkyrie, just to keep you going.

The valkyrie would be the last thing ever sold. My wife claims we would live on it if need be. It was her dads bike and when he passed away it became ours.

Administrative Assistant.  Everyone gets a title now-a-days. Roll Eyes

Sometimes quitting is a feel good deal.  the last time I quit was over 12 years ago.  The boss begged me to stay... offered me more money etc... and I got to tell him the reason I was leaving was HIM.  He wasn't a BAD guy really.  But he was getting Alzheimery and I couldn't work for him.

Good luck bro!

Quoted because it's true.

Gavin,
Glad you're able to move on and do so with an increase in pay and hopefully benefits.  I would only caution you to not burn any bridges, they are very difficult to rebuild once gone should you ever decide to do that.  Moving on can be a good thing and I surely hope this works out well but, having burnt a bridge or two in my life, I can say with confidence, doing so was not in my best interest.

Hey thanks terry. Ron, I was glad to burn that bridge finally. We had discusion over discusion about what would be best for the company. Everything the owner agreed to do actually went in the opposite direction. He would come out to the shop and yell and scream in your face about something you didnt even know anything about. He only pointed his finger in my face and yelled once. Told him next time ill break that finger off and shove it down his throat. That man is very bi polar. He was always talking about going bankrupt, so I wasnt too confident in th he company any way. It wont be around a year from now. So am I worried about burning that bridge? Not at all. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was waiting on this new job to come through and work out all the details.

I love Heavy equipment and trucking too.
Thats like going to Day-care and playing with cars and trucks all day at 55.

Brian, you screw around on Kit and you will become a Stallion with no tool to play with, she will politely remove 3 items.  1 short thing and a bag of nuts.

Sorry to hear the old job went sour and glad to hear you got a new one. That's the good thing about knowing one or more of the "trades". Your career isn't the company you work for, it's the skill set you have.
