The last time I went for a ride I had the engine cut out a few times on the way there. On the way back it died completely. Both times it was after about an hour and a half of riding. When it died I checked the fuel pressure because I had been working on the fuel filter the day before, had the pump out and replaced the filter screen. I had assumed it was something I did. But it had fuel pressure. So It has to be electrical. Judging buy the fuel smell on cranking I'd say the injectors were firing, so I'm guessing it's spark related. All I did was lay my hand on the coil pack and it fired right up. I hate intermittent problems.

Maybe the coil pack is bad? Or the crank pickup? I hope it isn't the emu. I figure I'll fire it up in the driveway and put a heat gun on the coil pack and see if I can get it to misfire.

Yes, it is on a Valk, just not many Honda parts left on it.  Wink

Ground bracket loose? Touching the coil pack and maybe moving slightly is what makes me think that something is loose cooldude

My fuel line was just slightly longer than normal after the addition of a fuel filter and pingle. A problem similar to your turned out to be the fuel line kinking, but it would only do it under load, and after it had heated up substantially. I finally figured it out by reaching underneath and feeling it kink while riding. There are a lot of possible causes, but this is one more thing to check. Good luck.

Remember, this ride of Jeff K's is a blown, fuel injected Valykrie.   Not too many STOCK parts left on it.   LOL.........

Thanks for listening.

Starter relay connector or fuse holder on same corroded? Loose connection on bank angle sensor? Both have caused a similar problem on my valk. Either would mean touching the coil pack and "healing" it was just a fluke though. I hate those kind of problems.

Damn thing. I ran it in the driveway for a while with a heat gun on the coil pack... Nothing, never missed a beat. So I took it to Plant City for bike night. It ran fine. I'd rather it crapped out totally so i know what it is, close to home would be nice too.

Jeff, I had a similar problem a couple years ago, bike would randomly cut out, some times completely shut off, even was happening at highway speeds. turned out to be the ground connection in the harness. Under the battery box, just above the front of the swing arm, there is a lump in the harness, if you untape it there is a brown connector, that every ground runs through. When I opened mine up is was green with corrosion. I took it out and soldered the wires and heat shrink wrapped each connection, have not had a problem since. Might try wiggling it around and see it it quits.

Perhaps we could use a couple of words and photos on how it should work to get a better understanding  cooldude

When it died on the side of the road it had power to the fuel pump and everything else. So a power and ground issue at the battery is out of the question. But it could be the relay that feeds the power to the coil. Hard to say because it keep fixing itself. I rode for a couple hours today and it never hiccuped.

The ground block I mentioned, has the side stand , coil and several other critical grounds, that if lost will shut down the motor. Here is the schematic, the center line in the drawing is the connector under the seat. It is called the sub harness connector.

I have had a 'pick-up' coil go intermittently bad on a KZ1300 and on an old Fiero.  Both times, they were very intermittent and very frustrating.  Just another guess.
