When will it ever stop? Near misses with Deer that is,,, I know probably NEVER. On the way home from work this morning at 4:20am headed up SandHill toward 280, the speed limit is 35-40 depending on the exact stretch. I was coming from the 35 going into the 40 zone 4th gear (disclaimer: I was slightly over speed limit,,, maybe 10 or so over, bad decision I know). I know most if not ALL have no idea where this is located and that is OK, just read along quietly OK. As I came back up straight from the little curve in the roadway just before the intersection of SanHill and I think it's Alpine road. I think I see something in the middle of the intersection W.T.F. A NO GOOD LONG LEGGED FOREST RAT. yep a damn Deer right in the middle of the intersection. To my total disbelief it is a Deer oh "farkle", the one second delay to truly realize what my eyes are telling my brain puts me within just a couple yards from sure impact. SO I cut throttle grab lots of brakes ( damn too much rear brake) while I am down shifting (click one down) realize that I have totally locked the rear wheel "C/T" and starting to power slide an almost 850 pound machine ((((just about 1100 pounds with me in the saddle)))) is just WAY more fun than I need at 04:20.... I have decided that deer ALWAYS run in a different direction from what they where originally pointing when startled. Luckily the young doe spins and runs away from my slide direction, click another gear down completely release brakes and drop the hammer and power out of the slide straighten up fully and then slow back down easily and start realizing what just happened and count my blessings again and again,, then I ride well below the speed limit all the rest of the way home. DAMN DAMN DAMN,,,, I am thankful “again” to have dodged one of mother natures natural bullets of death and carnage.

This past week in minnesota. be careful out there.
A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when he struck a deer that was crossing Interstate 694 in White Bear Lake.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the man was riding east on the freeway at White Bear Avenue about 10:50 p.m. when he hit the deer.
The impact threw the rider off his motorcycle, and he was hit by a car that had been following behind. The victim has not been identified.

I’ve bought those “deer whistles” and put them on my bike. I do know that when I’m passing a dog or horses I notice that they do look up at least. Deer still scare the be-geesus out of me! Here in rural Wisconsin you’ll see deer everywhere, even downtown Eau Claire.

I wonder if the car driver was cited for following too close? He sure was, or he would not have driven over the fallen rider. Want to bet NOT!! MP

One night I was on a rural dark highway. Four lane divided (Beeline South of Fountain Hills). A car, 250 yards in front of me, suddenly swerved to the left lane. I slowed and moved left too. At 50 MPH I passed a wild burro in the right lane. He was standing broadside to the lane and never moved as I passed less than 3 ft from his head. Maybe 700 lbs of stupid animal.

Wild hogs are plentiful year 'round and don't easily scare off, especially if mama has her little ones nearby or it's a boar. A few years back early evening, about dusk, I was headed east toward the coast from the Orlando area and saw something in road. At first it looked like a log and at a distance thought it was nothing more than a large piece shredded off a semi tire. As I got closer, the "rubber" moved slightly, that's when I realized it was one of the largest gators I had seen in the wild. That sucker stretched all the way from the edge of the road in my lane to the middle of the oncoming lane. I was moving at a good clip but was able to move to the shoulder, just clipping his tail at the very end. If I'd hit the darn thing, I not only would have probably been killed by the impact and subsequent crash, but would most likely have been supper for him as well. I stopped some distance away and used the cell phone to call the authories, told them it was an accident waiting to happen. I flagged down three cars and they inched around him, darn thing wouldn't move. I think the big thing with him was the fact the blacktop was still warm from the day's sun and he was enjoying it. It was only a few minutes before a ranger and two state troopers showed up, the ranger had a funny looking gun that fired bean bags(at least that what they looked like) and at the same time they made a lot of noise, causing him to finally move off into the swamp nearby.

A deer materialized out of nowhere (I think she beamed down) in front of me at highway-speed (plus a little ) on hiway 64 about a mile from Louisburg WV today. Not as close as yours, but still a surprise... I bigBF-beeped her over the guard rail, and was on my way to the General Lewis... -Mike

way up the BRP to the B/G ride....and then I had a full sized black bear jump out in front of me on the BRP....it looked at me and Britman behind me but thankfully kept on trucking it across the road...they can move FAST cause I was bearing down on him at 50mph with a sharp left hander coming up...hope I avoid them on the way home tomorrow!!!..

My Nephew just went down on his ultra last night in town at 25 mph, A huge coon scooted across the road and actualy slid his front tire out from under him, Both him and his wife are bruised but ok, crash bars and hard bag, another story. This morning I just had a deere shadow me on the side of the road for about 500 ft as I slowed down and waited to see which way he decided to dart, He went right and all was well except for the pucker meter.

We have these rats over here that range from 3 ft to 7ft tall. (Kangaroos) These animals are the most stupid of all animals. They bound alonside the car and then decide to hop in front, same with bikes. They can jump fences and come out of trees like missles. Oh and they are heavy and will destroy a small truck when you hit them. We also have Galahas, a parrot that waits on the side of the road in flocks until the vehicle almost gets to them, they then all fly up together and into the vehicle. Not as bad as the Roos, but messy anyway. Finally we have bicycle couriers, the most stupid of all, they pay no attention to traffic, lights or road rules. If you have a go at them they throw the bike at you screaming all sorts of obcenities. But its still not legal to shoot these things (Big Mistake) it would be so much the better.

I've decided PA and most of Eastern WV must need longer hunting seasons. They have way to many deer jumping into the roads around here.
At the moment I'm not terribly pleased by any form of roadside flat critter. I pulled bone and something that looked like pink beef jerky out of my rear tire on the way home from the Blue Grey ride.
At least I was able to stay safe and we are fine, but still $50 bucks for a patch because I didn't have one on me, $$$ for a new car tire and a mounting up here somewhere when I get a chance. That's the most expensive roadkill I've hit thus far.

Friday afternoon, rt 58 heading west. I came over a rise then a sweeping left turn. There's one forest rat crossing left to right--hobbling across [probably got hit previously]. It kept going. The second one coming from the left stopped, turned and hightailed it back from where it came. I had slowed [rapidly] by then. Luckily no traffic either way. Man I hate forest rats.
