Okay... so I freely admit that I do not entirely know what I am asking for... other than moral support and technical opinions.

For those of you that were there at the hill country ride you know I wasn't on the Valk.  (Bad karma!)

I had yanked the rear end just days before due to a troublesome "clicking" coming from the final drive.  Of course, with the ongoing bathroom remodeling and the start of school... driven entirely by the state's expectation that all my students should be "rocket scientists" or "aerospace engineers" at age 15... I have been somewhat busy fighting off the bureaucrats.

But today... This glorious day!  I found time to get the rear wheel on the Valk well enough to man-handle my beloved beast onto the lift.  (It was occupied by the other bike at the time of dis-assembly!)  Whereupon, I will most righteously and verily will be immediately removing the rear wheel, yet again to do further gratuitous investigation.

I guess what I am asking for is for all my Texas friends to be patient and understanding of the obvious fact that I am, indeed, and most assuredly... a complete moron.  And will therefore need your most gracious a beneficial help and advice to fix whatever is wrong, (if anything) with my beast.

Now... for the pictures... (Pictures of my Beast always make me wanna bark like a dog!  Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff...ruff!)

Oh BTW... Houdini... what was that tire you're running?  Wasn't that you that had the Falken you "loved" so much?  This Goodyear TTA is a total BITCH to get on and off the bike.

Love...

T

I am, indeed, and most assuredly... a complete moron.

Anyone smart enough to get the bestest and fastest Valk ever made is most assuredly NOT a moron!

Beyond that... 'fraid I can't help ya' much...

That was me Travis and yes, I have the The Falken Ziex ZE-512.

I can't comment on how hard it is to remove 'cause most DS tires are a little more difficult to remove than a MC.

Not quite as cool looking as a GY TT but purdy good looking, IMHO, and handles waaaaay better than a TT

Cheaper too!

Is it just me, or does it look like you have that Goodyear mounted backwards treadwise???

It's just you, it looks correct to me and the same rotational direction I've worn the last two TT's in.  err, out.  Worn out rolling in.  Yeah, that's it!

I always thought it "looked" backward too... but the rotation arrow is correct.  I have some wear on the splines which is concerning me... I'll get em cleaned up and post some images this evening.

How hard are Valk rear ends to find on ebay?  Also I have a brand new (came from a dealer trike out...) Goldwing rear end and for the life of me they seem very similar.  I haven't mic-ed it yet but all the holes seem to be the right size and in the proper places... has anyone ever swapped one?

I stand corrected.  The stock  pic from Tirerack is the front of the tire, and yours is from the rear.   Sorry.

S'all good man... S'all good!

Hey I know the pics are crappy but I took these with a pin hole camera I made out of an oatmeal canister and developed them in my bathroom... then I scanned them in using a 600 pixel serial port scanner to a Compaq 286 DX running Windows 3.0. <!--insert stupid techie joke here-->

So tell me, is the wear excessive?

I'm sorta weird about such things... to me it seems bad although I have seen far worse... see below

One has to think there is corresponding wear on the facing teeth.  Prolly a totall of about 5 to 8 thousanths.  Everything else appears okay.

So... am I too far out of spec here?  Or do I say "damn the torpedos" lube the crap out of it and re-insert the monster with new o-rings and seals and run for another couple of years.

You've got about a bazillion miles left on those teeth, I'd lube it up, slap it on and go ride.  I'd also setup an automated search on ebay and keep an eye out for the replacement you'll need someday.  They're worn but have plenty of life left.

I had about half the metal on my gears compared to the second example and rode it for almost two months waiting for all of the parts.  YMMV

Another thought, go by your local Honda dealer and buy the extended warranty, six months from now take the pumpkin in and show them how scarily worn out the gears are and ask for a repair.  I paid $600 for the warranty and the parts and labor total for my repairs were almost $1500.  I'm just saying....

The clicking in the rear is probably worn dampeners.
