Turned on key, neutral lights came on, then heard pop and everything went dead. Checked fuse block fuses and 30 amp fuse along with fifty amp. All ok. Had power to one side of fifty amp but no to other side. Took it off and it was ok? Battery checks good butwhen key is turned on looks like it goes to short or dead with meter. Thanks for any help.

If you had juice at one side of the 50 amp and not at the other side, it can't be OK.  It has to be blown.

If you want help then you have to help us. Is this a Standard/Tourer or an IS?  What year and how many miles?

Have you done any work recently having anything at all to do with electrical?  Is your bike stock or are there wiring mods/additions?

It can always help to clean and tighten all connections, check the starting solenoid and clean the starter button.  Once all that is checked/fixed, jump it to your car battery and see if that changes anything

Its a 1978 standard, no electrical mods, and on the fifty amp fuse, its a piece of metal between two posts and it is still a solid piece of metal. I was thinking something was broke because I took one side of it loose and it stayed together. Thanks for help.

If your battery is showing 12+ volts then drops considerably when you turn the key on, it's time for a new battery as it won't carry a load.  it has a surface charge only.

Check the connections on the battery.  A corroded cable acts just like you described.  Had it happen on my Wing.

or there was no continuity to wherever you were probing indicating an open or incomplete circuit caused by a poor connection.

Okay, try to jump the bike off of your car/truck, but DO NOT start that vehicle.

If it starts, go get a new battery and do a CORRECT 1st charge on it.   By that I mean a 3 amp trickle charger on it for at least 12 hours.

If it don't start, then uphook the battery cable, and take that 50 amp terminal off the frame and do a very good close inspection of it on the back.

If it is screwed up, get a new terminal and replace it.

One of the 2 should solve your problem.

PS:   When we suggest something, we have no idea what is wrong with your bike, all we can do is suggest items, we do not have the bike to see for ourselves, you are our eyes.

If you don't like our suggestions, then maybe you need to go over on the Gold Wing side and see if they can help you.    A bad attitude to our replies doesn't cut the mustard too good.   All we are trying to do is help.

I hope you are refering to a 1997 Valkyrie Standard.  I assumed that was a typo, I do it all the time.
