Thinking of getting my heads ported and installing custom ground cams. Anyone on here try this? I would like to keep stock carbs and exhaust. My question is would the stock carbs and exhaust negate the head work and cams? Any input would be appreciated.

I don't remember anyone that had any good results with cams.  There was one manufacturer that built some though.  Just not enough bang for the buck.

There are some who have done polishing on the intake risers with little noticeable affect.

Porting is already pretty well done since the intake risers are individually cast and lend themselves to good alignment when compared to automotive type manifolds.

With such a small displacement for each cylinder, care should be taken when modifying intake and exhaust profiles, since doing so can adversely affect the performance with a cumulative loss of power and efficiency.

I have three sets of ported heads. One is on my bike and two are up in the attic. One of them has bigger valves installed, 1mm larger. I also have a set of Web cams that I have never used, they weren't the off the shelf web cams, they were a custom grind. I think i have the specs somewhere.
I've been thinking about selling some of this stuff. Not giving it away mind you, it isn't cheap stuff.

Jeff, if I were 20 yrs. younger I'd try talking you into selling that to me. But sadly, for men my age there are two things we don't need; a super performing bike and a mistress. Actually, never found a need for a mistress anyway, but a hot bike....I've had my day in the sun.  cooldude

To be honest I'm just getting bored with it. HP Valkyries are fun, but I'm real close to moving on. It was a lot more fun when there were a few of us doing it, but now it's all about which car tire is the new hot thing. But I have a ton of stuff stashed away Corrillio rods, boxes full of pistons of various sizes, blower manifolds, blowers, cams, heads, coil over plug setups.... I have a ton of stuff. Maybe I need to start yet another new "project"?

Jeff, there are a lot of us in the same boat. Squirrel away heaps of gear then one day nobody really wants it. Have a shed full of GL1000 parts and a 98 US edition Goldwing. Another project to clean up, loaned it to a "mate" and it did not come back in great shape
Supposed all these projects keeps one out of bars.
Cheers Steve
