Fort Walton Beach, Florida I'm a simple man, I like pretty, dark haired woman and breakfast food.

If I could afford to go (which I can't this year  Cry ), the trip to the InZane would be an almost 1,700 mile trip....one way!  After side trips and ridin' around while there, the trip back to Florida would be well over a 3,500 mile trip.  That's a fer piece in anybody's book.  That also might be a set of tires for some brands.   Grin

I'm courious as to how many making the trip to the InZane are trailering their Valks....or, are you Iron Buttin' it all the way there and back home?

What's yer reasons for either?

I'll be there only through lookin' at pics...oh well the choices that we make.
Did have fun at the BlueGrey ride this weekend. And I think  I'm going to plan to make it to Thunder in the Vally, PA in a couple of weeks. And over the Independence Holiday (3rd for USA and 1st for Canadians) I'm going to head up to Niagara Falls and Canada. So I'll be getting a little riding in. Don't own a trailer. All my neighbors had some back in NC, so I just borrowed what I needed.

Won't be there at Inzane.  Cry But I'll get around a bit.

If you see mine on a trailer its broke down.
I just put on new tires. Avon Cobra on the front and Darkside on the back.
Ill be riding in from Missouri. Its about 900 miles to Frisco. I plan on leaving Tues evening, and arriving Wednesday Evening.
My reason... Its the journey not the destination.

I will be ridding from Alabama 1350 miles. After Inzane My friend Tony Peep and I will be traveling, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Beartooth pass, Cody, Stergies, North and South Dakota, Mount Rushmore, Crazy horse, Minnasota, Wisconsin. and back to Alabama. I'm estimating 6500-7000 miles for the total trip. I have retired so I could do this trip. Already looking at the next trip:) I plan on running the wheeles off this thing before I get to old to do it.

I'm just up the road from Santa, and I will be traveling 1250 miles on the Valk to Frisco.  For me personally a big part of the adventure is the ride out and back, however I can understand why some might have to trailer due to various factors.

Wizard and I are riding to Inzane -- we've already left to get there!  Though I've done it a time or two due to extenuating circumstances, and will do it again if I need to, I do hate to see a healthy bike on a trailer.

Well folks, I will be there with probably 4 bikes, and will be trailering.  So if anyone breaks down, not to worry.  If you can find me I will be more than glad to come haul your ass in.  Trailering is the way to go if you have multiples, and also you can switch off driving and drive straight through if you are pressed for time, it will give you more time on the ground.  There will be 3 or 4 of us, and its cheaper to drive 1 truck than 4 motorcycles.

10-04 what Tom, (Master Blaster) says.

I already have 242,000 miles on MGM and he has deserved a ride if he wants one.

So blast away if you so desire, it will land on deaf ears on my part.  I don't have anything to prove by riding to an event.

Besides, my age has a factor in it also,

I wish you could make it, no matter how you get there. I know because I've only been able to make one, in 06'.
My son ( Nickster ) and I are iron buttining this trip without the girls do to time restaints. It's 2,300 miles to St. Mary, MT, from my house.
Then we actually start our America trip to Inzane thru the Going to the Sun Hwy. Glacier Park. We plan on going thru MT. and WY. down to Frisco, CO. On the way back we'll be heading to Seattle via Utah and Idaho. We'll probably have close to 9,000 miles in, counting the week we will be in the Frisco area. Were actually staying in Breckinridge from the 19th to the 26th. I have a few rides planed for that week.
Like some one else said, it's not the destination as much, but the journey. It's been a long winter here, and as beautiful as it is in the summer here, you can only ride to so few places here in Alaska.
Thank's for the post, and letting me ramble on. It's 11:25 Pm, and still light out.

RJ, I hope to see you there also. That's another reason this trip out with my son means so much, I don't take my health for granted.  Wink

I will be riding but I certainly do not have a problem with those who choose to trailer.  It is more economical to trailer multiple bikes.  There comes a time for all of us then the old iron butt just aint iron any more and the leg cramps on a long journey just aren't worth it.  Being rained on isn't as much fun as it used to be.  Also, air conditioning is pretty good in the summer.  I just had a couple of 500 mile days last week in 100 degree weather and it was still fun.  See you all there...JTL

To each their own.  Riding is the best, but time, age, and other factors enter in.  Just do what you have to do.
I do have issues with some that trailer 50 miles, so their bike stays clean! Park it in the lot for the week, then load it up for the "trip" home.

I have to say that you guys definitely win the dedicated biker award.  2,300 miles just to get to Montana is an incredible journey in itself.

You mention that it is still daylight at 11:25pm.....I think that would be awesome!  However, not sure I could stand the flip side of it during the winter when there is only a couple hours of daylight!

Jan and I are Iron Butting it....on those hard @$$ Corbins, no less!
This will be her first real road trip other than 3-400 mile ones.  She's never had the joy and pleasure of riding all day in the rain (or snow) either.  Geez, I hate it when that happens!
In 2004, I rode to InZane in Paducah, KY from Reno, NV (and back) all by myself.  I got rained on EVERY DAY both ways!!!!  I got rained on 3 times before I got to the UT line from Reno, of all things!
Have I trailered?  Yes, I have, but not very often.  So you guys that are trailering ain't gittin' no grief from me.  It is more important that you just BE THERE!
You guys that ARE riding in, here's a couple of tips. Many of you will be coming across some of the most desolate empty lands in the lower 48, so PLAN for problems!  If you have to buy new tires on the trip, make sure you are carrying a spare set of wheel bearings/seals, because if some YO-YO in Podunk, Nowhwere doesn't torque your axle nuts correctly, you will be looking all over Hell in the middle of Nowhere trying to find a correct set of bearings/seal.  Regarding tires; carry a tire repair kit, this could be a life saver out in the middle of the desert.
Carry water and keep yourself HYDRATED!!!  Very important in the desert where the relative humidity will be less than 20%.
Be aware that you are going from low elevations (sea level in many cases) to over 10,000 ft. and some folks do not react well to that great a change, there is much less oxygen in the air you breathe at those high elevations.
Now, just one more thing for you party folks:  See the above comment about the low amount of oxygen in the air at 10,000 ft....1 beer will feel like 3, 2 will feel like 6, and ...well, you get the idea!
Personally, I am looking forward to seeing old pals from previous InZanes I attended and to having a lot of fun and even learning a thing or two in the tech sessions.
Ride (or drive) safely everyone.

Wife on her Gold Wing, I on my Valk rode to Frisco from Virginia the long way (through Albuquerque) in 2006. Then after InZane we rode to Wyoming, back across South Dakota (stopped at MT Rushmore and Sturgis), then decided to come on home. We rode 4452 miles, in 16 states, and were on the road 15 days. The only trailer was behind my wife's Gold Wing.

There's something ugly about a bike on a trailer.
I know that there are quite a few "bikers" who only use their motorcycle as a fashion statement. They "ride" their motorcycle to some motorcycle show, take it off the trailer, and sit on the bike as if they have just done a 3,000 miles ride on it. In fact, I can see many 5 year old motorcycles for sale with less than 3,000 miles on it....
I can understand there could be reasons why some might have to trailer.

I`m leaving for 3rd European Inzane in Finland on Tuesday morning, and will be in Kuovola, Finland Thursday evening. I have spent many hours finding a good route. For me, the ride is as important as the show.
About 1,100 miles to Kuovola.

The Germans are more sophisticated, they send their Valkyries by airfreigt to Finland....  Shocked  no comment

Hey Santa- if you're in the Wisconsin area you should keep going up into the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, see Copper Harbor, ride over "the Bridge" and ride M-22 (one of the Top 10 Scenic Drives by AAA), and then drop down to your neck of the woods. Just a thought. Smiley
