Are the throttle cables for a Interstate the same as a Standard ? Will they interchange ( Interstate on Standard....Standard on Interstate) ?

Only difference is they mount to the housing,Tourer/standard mount on the front of housing, on the handlebars.

Smokinjoe the Interstate cables are shorter. The interstate housing exits out the bottom and the standard exits out the side. but the cables for the interstate are still shorter than the standard. Hope this helps

So if I buy some nice used throttle cables for a Interstate they will fit my Standard model ?

The numbers are different, and attic rat sez that the Interstate ones are a little shorter. I would worry
about the throttle cable becoming tight or even engaging at full lock. I would only do it if someone
sez they've done it and it works fine...

I'd have to check, I think I have a used interstate throttle cable that came with some stuff I bought
from that poppo guy on eBay who buys good bikes and parts them out. It came in the pile, I
bought the pile for reasons other than the cable. Assuming it is non-rusty and seems good you could
have it for free.

But whether or not it is safe to use an Interstate throttle cable on a Std is still to be determined

I do know that Al in Arkansas broke down in Robbinsville,NC last year with a throttle cable broke on his Interstate and I took him one off the Duffy crashed bike ( my blue Standard Valk ) and it worked and got him home. Reason I'm asking here I can get a used set off a Interstate with low miles and decent price . From now on I'll carry a set of these with me when on rides just want to be sure the Interstate cables will fit a Standard....Below is a pic of the cables I took Al for his Interstate .

Smokinjoe the handle bars are also different from an interstate to a standard. If you look closely you will see that they make up the difference in the throttle housing. The interstate exits out the bottom where the standard exits out the side. When I put the harley duce risers on I have to use the standard throttle cables with the interstate housing which gives me the most lenght. The interstate cables do not work well on the standard unless you use the interstate throttle housing. I hope this clears this up

My bad. I was thinking they were the same. I could see using a standard on the I/S and not the other way. I had ordered new cables for mine with the deuce risers. Had to order them 2" longer than stock. Can't remember if I kept my old ones or sold them. Will have to check and see if I still have them

I didn't like the way the cables came out of the side of the mounts on my Tourer, so I picked up a set of cables and mount of an I/S from Pinwall. The I/S cables come out the bottom of the housing, worked fine on my Tourer. You will have to adjust them for play after installation, but they work great and don't protrude out the side of the handle bar.
