i have read threads where gas fumes leak from the gas cap key hole, i'm currently having this problem.
i was wondering, has anyone replaced the cap with a new cap and solved the problem?
i was thinking of buying a new gas cap ,but didnt want to waste the money if the same thing is going to happen.

Well.......I guess the answer is as clear as mud can be.  Why some bikes have this trouble and why some don't? hmmm.  Why mine did before but has stopped? hmmmm

Maybe they all do it and only some of us notice it, and then some of us get used to it and stop noticing it........hmmmmm

What are your chances of fixing it with a new part? hmmmmm

Sorry

PS if it stinks really bad, Id buy a new one in the hopes that its at least better....cant be worse

I think they all smell to a degree.   Mine is only noticeable when I'm in a strong cross wind and a super packed full tank of fuel.   Parked in the garage, maybe once or twice I have smelled it.

Since I bought MGM, I have worked in my sons shop until last year end, then I retired fully.  Son bought me out.   Smelling gas in the shop all the time I never noticed a smell.    Now that I'm retired from there, I'll smell gas in my garage maybe once or twice a week.   I think a lot of it is due to the temperature.   When it is warm out, yeah, I smell  it, but if it is cold, I don't smell it.   And it is only on a full tank of fuel.

So save your $$$$ and just learn to live with it.

PS:   Are you a smoker?  If so no smoking around your bike when you have a gas smell.

I was able to stop the smell temporarily by placing a piece of plastic wrap across the hole in the tank and closing the cap. I don't know what else it affects like ventilation but it stopped the vapors..

The reason I'm trying to get rid of the smell is to park the bike in the house. I don't have a garage so I like to park it in the living room.
Other than that I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, like this?

I've smelt the illusive gas smell, learned to ignore it as others have.

As far as having the bike parked in the house, I've got three in my cellar and I go through there several times a day, for years, and have never smelled gas.
