...here's what I know...

...Curtis just sent me these pics of his Interstate.  He and Judy met up with a deer at 65mph last night after the Lost Maples ride.  They are both sore and needed some stitches, but otherwise OK.  Damian (2K1Supervalk) saw them to the ER and made sure they got home OK last night.  He also helped Curtis go back to pick up the bike this morning.

Big sigh of relief here!

Both Curtis and Judy are OK and it even looks like the Valk is in not too bad of shape.  Curtis said that the bike started right up this morning and that last night the stereo was still playing after sliding, skipping and rolling 320 ft.

Also, hats off to Damian for stepping up to help take care of these very lucky folks!   cooldude cooldude

The Valk actually traveled 375 feet after impact. Judy blazed a trail for 126 feet. When i got there it looked like she was laying in a snowbank from all the insulation that was exposed from the snow bib she was wearing to stay warm for the day. Thank God for layered clothing for a cool ride that day. Judy also had deep scratch's on her face shield. I am very surprised they made it through.

God Bless,
So many reasons to ride, and so many scary things out there to consider each time. Back in the saddle again. Eyes open and alert, and we all still need a fistful of luck besides.
I hope your scuffs heal, and your bike gets back to fighting trim soon.
Peace.
Charles.

Curtis,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I am glad you are still around.  I hope and pray that you and the misses heal quickly.  Strangely enough, I was at Lost Maples on Sunday with my wife and granddaughter.

Here's what I think:

If 1) your bike has sentimental value, and 2) you don't mind it having a Salvage Title going forward, retain it and use the +/- $5,500.00 to repair it.  There is a lot of motorcycle left and you might wind up with some extra cash.

If 3) your bike has no sentimental value, and/or 4) you don't want a bike with Salvage Title, take the total loss and buy another.

OR, if you can get your insurance adjuster to use the street prices for used replacement parts instead of full-pop retail prices for new Honda replacement parts, it might not have to be totaled.

I'd keep the bike if I were you. The parts you need are available either on here or you can snag them off of eBay. Just keep a look out for what you need, and be ready to grab it when it becomes available. Your Interstate really didn't get that much damage, and it'd be a shame to let it slip through your fingers.

That's really good news if everything checks out OK.  I think the next steps are to take it down to a rolling chassis and inspect everything you take off for bends/cracks/symmetry and then the frame very closely for bends/cracks/symmetry/cracks in the paint.

Just my two cents and worth every each penny.   coolsmiley

Glad to know you are feeling well enough to work through this and that you're not "hanging it up"!  Good luck and keep us in the loop!

I agree with Dave, not getting a salvage title is a plus. Unless there is some damage not visible in the pics, with 5K bucks you could repair a lot and pocket a lot.

Get busy and tear it down for a good inspection before they come to haul it off.

Check the neck in the frame for any cracked paint, if ya find some, it means a bent frame.   If it is bent, let em have it.

Then go find ya a nice used one.    There is a bunch of them out there for sale. Some over priced, some in the right price range and some that are stupidly low in price, those I'm afraid of.
