Sometime I intend to spray some replacement body panels for my old car, and I see that right now Princess Auto has a $50 spray gun on for $20.

Is is worth it to pick this up for occasional use?  What issues are there concerning cheap spray guns?  Poor spray pattern?  Wears out quickly?

The big difference between 20 and 200 is the quality of the spray pattern and control. If you are gonna use it just to cover, then this will work for you. Use it on scrap first to see how it works, then get after it. Just make sure you clean it out really well afterwards and it will be ready to use the next time. cooldude

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I have a cheap one and it works fine. Only used it once tho. Just begin spraying off the item and stop when you are off the item.

I still use old can siphon guns for primary work.. My favorite primer gun is an old Binks 7 ..  If your not use to squirting paint,, there is quite a learning curve.. But,, as with anything,, it'll just take a little practice [and maybe a lot of sand paper  Grin ].. I can't see a name on that gun where the name should be and for the price it has to be a cheap chinese piece,, but,, it still should shoot at least primer OK..

I pretty much painted all my life, so I have a little understanding. I make sure that the CFM of the gun somewhat matches your compressor capacity. If you have a compressor with low capacity and a gun that needs higher CFM it may cause a problem. I think technique is more important, the quality of the gun is a plus. I have painted with real crap guns with allot of success. Check out HVLP guns at HarborFreight and you don't have to waste allot of cash. I have a high dollar DeVillbis HVLP and a cheap HarborFreight HVLP and don't notice much difference.

So, would I be better off getting this HVLP gun?  Harbor Freight isn't an option here.

While the spray gun is an important factor I found that how you dilute the paint with thinner, the concentration, is more important.

Advice from a professional is invaluable, if you have a resource.
