Today while riding I notice everytime I hit the brakes my volt meter dropping to 10 volts. I got home and disconnected my only non stock brake light and the problem seemed to be with it. Then I noticed evertime I pulled the brake lever or stepped on the rear brake pedal the headlights went out and my turnsignals lit up and the indicator lights on the dash and the highbeam light also lit up. I have a hoppy trailer box hooked up so tomorrow I"ll disconnect it and see if some of the crap straightens up. Open to all suggestions or knowledge. The headlight is what is really getting to me as the other lights I can figure out. This a 2000I/S  with 157,000 on it. I've checked all fuses and the alt. is working and the battery seems to be ok. HELP PLEASE

I don't have an exact clue but it sounds like there is a ground loose with all the wierd things happening.

Other than that all I can say is good luck, these can be a booger.

You are on the right track by disconnecting extra stuff.  That should narrow the search.  Assuming the battery is properly grounded...always good for a look...I would next look at brake light grounds.  It may be a poor brake light ground that is causing the current to look for another way to ground.  Disconnecting other circuits, one at a time via fuses or connections, can also limit the search.  Electrical gremlins are frustrating.  Good luck.

I know this sounds strange, but I had a brake light bulb
burn out and one of the filaments landed on the other.
This caused the ckt to feed back..
This is just a thought, I feel the hoppy adapter my be the problem.

Good suggestion, I've had this happen twice on a couple of cars.

Shortleg and TX, I too have had this happen to me on my 79 Toyota 4X4.
It is easy to check all of the bulbs.  I would start there.

Up date, went out there this morning and cycled all switches and the key switch several times and the problem is gone. I hate this kind of stuff as if I found something I can fix it. Gonna take a test ride in the morning and check it out. If it doesn't repeat I'll just keep riding her.

Wonder if water got in somewhere creating a temporary condition to an exposed circuit...

I think I found it. I have my cruise control grounded thru a relay and the brake light wire triggers the relay and the ground drops off to disengage the C.C.. I think the relay went south and when I hit the brakes everything went to ground. I removed the relay and everything but the C.C. is working fine. Got a new relay but haven't installed it yet. Son is getting married tonight so it'll be tomorrow before I can test it.
