Yes. The gas tanks are the same for both models.

And, the Standard/Tourer tank will fit on an Interstate. 

An Interstate tank will fit on a Standard/Tourer, but will usually be crowded by the front of the Standard/Tourer seat.

is it true that the interstate tank is about two gallons larger than the tourer tank?

all the connections are interchangable?

if i were to put an interstate tank on a tourer and then add a set of ultimate seats would you just get seats for an interstate instead of the tourer (since the tourer now has an interstate tank?)

Interstate tank is one gallon larger and has a hole for the fuel guage sending unit. You have to get a block off plate if you don't install the sender..

I would think that a seat for an Interstate will fit with the IS tank.

Fuel tank capacity, from the Clymer guide, US gallons:

Standard/Tourer  5.3
Interstate          6.9

Reserve, S/T 1.14, IS 1.06 (included in total capacity).
