There's a few traffic lights close by my work where the lane sensor is too weak to pick up even my 750 lb fat lady.  I've read about the little magnetic "green light changers" but thought they were too over-priced to bother, but finally just went over to Harbor Freight and bought a couple of small magnets, some shrink tubing, and "borrowed" some plastic tie wraps from work.  Evil  (total price, about 6 bucks) Made up two of these "green light changers" and installed them on the bike yesterday, knowing I would be riding in to work today (re: ride your bike to work day) to test them out.  Lo and behold, like magic, the lane sensors now "see" me!

Anyone else tried these things with success/failure?

A couple of years ago, someone on the forum stated that they work on the old technology traffic lights. The newer ones use a different sensor system and the magnets have no effect on them, but the new system will sense a MC without magnets.

There used to be some lights around here that wouldn't trigger.  So I picked up a 150-lb magnet from Harbor Freight and fastened it under the bike.  After that I never waited for lights that wouldn't trigger anymore.  So I gotta think they work, for the old-tech systems.  Though I had to scrape off Harley parts periodically.  Then I wanted to use that space for something else - underpanel lights - so I took the magnet off, as they were going to new-tech triggers anyway.  Many of them are based on optical systems now, with cameras or sensors on top of the poles. I can't think of any intersections around here that don't trigger now, even without the magnet.  I'm glad I'm not invested in Green Trigger stock...

I strapped a big magnet (100 lbs I think) from HF onto the Side Stand Mount and hardly ever have to wait very long.  I read that it matters where you stop cpmpared to the suts in the road.  I think the corners are most sensative.

In our neck of the woods all of the intersections have been converted over to cameras on the poles.  If it cant see me I just run the light.
