New to this board and Valkyrie ownership. LOVE the bike ('97 Standard). I also have a '00 Goldwing and a restored '74 550 Four. The Valk rapidly becoming my favorite. I'm wondering which aluminum parts are clearcoated. I did read on a previous thread that the wheels are not coated and can be polished. How about the billet aluminum of the triple tree, the handlebar controls, etc?

Also I'm looking to replace the stock seats. I've read enough here to know that the Ultimate seats are made by a forum sponsor and highly regarded. I'm wondering in there is anyone in So Cal with an Ultimate Bigboy who would be willing to meet me for a ride where we might switch seats so I can try one out. Otherwise it's a lot of $ to plunk down not knowing if it "fits"my butt, etc. Thanks for the help.

On my Interstate, Everything but the wheels were clearcoated. I removed the clearcoat on the forks and polished them, as well as the clamp for the handlebars. The rest looked good, so I left them. The tripple clamps are covered on an Interstate, so I never looked, but the clearcoat is not hard to remove, if you wanted to do that. Good looking bike you got there. Enjoy! And welcome to the club cooldude

I polished the wheels, fork lowers and the lower triple tree. The coating can be removed with oven cleaner. CAREFULLY mask off what you don't want ruined before spraying. Let stand and wash off with liberal amounts of water. I then used wet 1000 grit paper. Then 1500 grit and 2 grades of polish on a Mothers mini powerball.

Thanks for the tips presented thus far. I'd love to get on that SoCal message board, but I can't for the life of me get anywhere when I use the link provided. I have contacted the board for help with this. Thanks again.

I believe you'll love the Ultimates, or at least I do. There are some that do not like them but ever since I put them on my VTX I was in love!  Cheesy. Contray to what I just, read the stock seats on my 98 are very comfortable but bought the Ultimates before I found out. but I've never been on a long trip with the stocker either. I do know the stock VTX seat is like riding on a concrete block!  Grin.

If you should decide to buy new, Des will let you try them out for 14 days.

Nice ride ya got there and welcome to the forum!  cooldude

Welcome from the central coast of California.  Good looking bike.  Lobe the red and white look but I guess I am a bit biased.  I have an ultimate (low rider) on my vtx and love it.  Good looking seat and comfortable.  I think they also have a money back guarantee within 30 days or something.

Welcome to the madhouse.
I have a king big boy, and I love it. I have noticed some that have the big boy didn't like it but moved up to the king and love them. I am 6'2", with a 34" inseam to give you some idea of size.
A fine looking bike you've got there.
As noted earlier the 2000 and up seat is a big improvement over the earlier seat, at least I believe they are. I have ridden both.

First I'd like to welcome you to the club and congratulate you for finding such a fine looking Valkyrie.  To the best of my knowledge all the wheels on 2000 & up bikes are polished and coated and I know that their seats are a big improvement as previously stated.  I have Ultimate Big Boys with backrests on both bikes and love them.  I have been told that I'd like the King even more, but have not yet had the opportunity to try one.  IMHO the driver's back rest is well worth the money, especially when riding any distance.  Feel free to ask any question on this board.  Someone here will have the answer and help you with the smallest of problems.  Again, Welcome to the "Valk World"...Jim Smiley

Ultimate Seats are Great. You won't regret spending the $$$$$$$$$$'s. Great looking bike and welcome. If you can find it out there give the White Diamond metal polish a try. Advance Auto carries it here. cooldude
