I finally got around to changing my intake o-rings today. I noticed an increase of the yellowish-brown sludge around the base of no. 3 intake. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see just how smashed the old o-ring were. Carefully measuring them with my digital mics, the old o-rings measured .182mm thick. The new o-rings measured .246mm. Quite a difference. The old ones really looked flat. It did not appear that the o-rings on the left bank had been changed before. All of the leakage that I noticed was on the right bank, namely no 1 & 3. The substance leaks out of the outer part of the o-ring. That seems strange since; 1. there is a vacuum in the intake tract, and 2. when on the stand stand that point is higher. No difference in how it runs, no problem there. I got tired of wiping it up. I'm sure it would have caused a problem eventually.

What is that yellow-ish brown stuff........corn oil?
I've been noticing that same kind of crap on my sparkley polished Grumpy's tips too. Wipes off with some Windex or other cleaner easy enough though.
I also need to change mine as well. Have the rings, just need to get one of those round tuits.

It's fuel/air mixture, isn't it? Nothing else should be passing through those tubes. On the three valks I've done, the gaskets leaked the same on both sides, more as you moved back.

I ordered some o rings a couple of days ago. The no. 2 is the only one leaking yet. I'm assuming that the burning oil smell when I stopped was that. No other signs of leaking oil. First time changing the rings in 102,000 miles.

Leaking intake orings shouldnt give you a bunring oil smell. Maybe a leaky shifter seal?

You have a source for the o-rings?

I never saw any oil leaking there. A while back I had a leak from the oil pressure sensor. That was an easy fix with a little teflon tape. The only time I notice it is when I pull into the garage. Never shows a loss of oil between oil changes.
