Greetings.  I've got a 2000 Valk Interstate.  A few weeks ago I noticed the speedometer quit for a little bit, and was bouncing.   It quit doing that fairly quickly, and happened again a few days later, but hasnt done it since, until a couple days ago, now it's not working at all.  As I understand it, it's not a simple issue of just lubricating a cable, or is it?  I know it's electronic, but I have no clue how to go about fixing it.  Can someone please give me some advice that has had the same issue, or knows what I should do (next to taking it to the very expensive Honda shop)?    Thanks a lot anyone...........  I was on here a couple years ago, but haven't been back so I started a new account.
Oh also, a second problem that just occurred yesterday... my radio seems to be shorting out. What are the possibilities of why that's happening, and any tips on how to fix it would be hugely appreciated....     Lee

Looks like the control circuit for the Audio main relay and the speedo share a ground connection - - green wire from audio relay and speedo as well as green/black at frame - I would check those ones first.  I sent you an e-mail with a link to Dag's manual PDF if you look at that you will find the schematic for your bike.

The interstate has a gear driven pickup, instead of the speedometer cable on the Std and Tourer.  I'd check to make sure the gear teeth aren't stripped.  I've seen it on one or two Interstates.
