I'm looking for something simple to simulate mechanical motion with linkage. I'm working on a dual carb project and want to work up some methods of operating them accurately. I can find some modeling software, but they seem to be too simplistic, or to complex. I don't need 3D modeling. I just need something that will simulate motion.

Can you use the actual carb and throttle linkage?

Have you thought about using "Linear Variable Displacement Transducers" (LVDTs) and a cheap plotter?

There are many places and websites that sell good used labratory equipment and supplies at extremely cheap prices.

And you wouldn't need any software as you'd have "hardcopy" from the plotters.

I think Solid works was on the list of "holy crap is that complex"  Wink
3D modeling, looks like a steep curve for a guy just figuring out the basics of Autocad.

Anything with motion is going to be complex.  Go on you tube and look at some tutorials for Sketch-Up.  It can do motion in a limited way.  The tutorials may give an indication if it will do what you need.

Went old school. I set up an indicator on each carb. There is so much slop in the carb arms this is going to be tough to tell if it's going to be OK.

Right now one side is 1 degree faster on both ends of the scale. If I set them the same at half throttle, they are +1 on idle, and +1 at WOT.

Mikuni makes a cable setup for multiple carbs. You can also make new cams for the carbs and machine the difference out of it.

Actually I have a project chucked up in the lathe now. Thinking about a pulley set up.

That would work real good, using 2 cables to one pull plate, the another to the pedal or grip. Smoothest way. I bought a cable setup from mikuni that the made for me for an old H2 750 drag bike using 50mm flatslides. Took about 3 weeks to get them but, i measured and the made it complete from grip to carbs. Was nice mine had 3 cables to 1cable. Balancing e carbs was the hard part but got them synced perfect after about 3hrs. Never had an issue after that.

Jeff, with a plus reading at each end it sounds like you need to lengthen the arm on that carb which will reduce amount of travel of the throttle shaft in relation to the other carb. Straigthen the offset in the arm a little
Would not need much to correct that little bit of difference
Cheers Steve

Yeah, that is the plan right now. I figured id tweak the arms a tad and go with it. The carbs themselves aren't all that precision. I miss spoke earlier, its 5 degrees off at each end. But it's not a lot in the scheme of things. I can get half of that out of the slop in the mounting of the arms themselves.
I made a spool for the throttle today I'll shoot a pick tomorrow after I get a mount fabed up and everything powder coated.
