My cruise stopped working mid ride over the summer, and I figured I would wait until winter to fix it.  I have the Audiovox Cruise, and the only thing I have checked is the connections going to the control pad.  I eliminated the quick connect plug just to make sure I didn't have a loose wire, but still no cruise.  What should I check next?  I need to do some other maintainence this winter, so I don't mind taking some things a part, but I don't even know where to start with this.  The lights work on the panel, in line fuse is fine, so I am lost...

Thanks in Advance.

Check your rear brake light. Is the bulb burned out? Seems like it couldn't possibly be the cause but the cruise does turn off when you apply the brake. If the bulb is burned out it creates an issue and the cruise control will not work. Discovered this earlier this year. Suddenly the cruise stopped working and a few days later noticed the brake light wasn't working. Replaced bulb, problem solved.

Not sure about a relay, I didn't install the cruise???  As for as the bulb, I should have mentioned I run LED lights, but I do have a bulb tucked under the seat for resistance(to keep the LED Brake light from staying on), so I will check that tonight.

Seems like a good place to start. The Audiovox trickles a charge through the brake light so that it "knows" that is hooked up (that's the trip out), and it won't set if it can't do that. Burned out bulb or led's cause it a problem. The additional bulb or a relay is the fix.

Daniel, question for ya.     I had the 128 LED rear brake light, and I never had to run a light in that line to make it work.       Why would that be.

I'll muck with vehicle juice, but never did understand these LED's other than they don't take much juice.

Since I converted him over to a Trike, I'm back now on the regular bulb deal.

I'd of rather had our 98 rear lights, but these look like VTX material and I kind of like the pointed end.

Did you have the audiovox cruise? That's the only reason. It trickles a charge to ground through the brakelight to verify that the trip/kill is correctly hooked up...most LED lights don't let that go through and it won't set.

If yours did it may have been one of the LED's with the built in load (to compensate for turn signals) or such....

Cool trike BTW...you need to post more pics! (or did I miss that thread?)

Love the green on the trike! I just checked the bulb I wired into the brake circuit, and it is working.  Come to think of it, I had the trunk on when the cruise stopped working so there was plenty of incandescent bulbs on the circuit.  (I super-valked the bike last year, the LEDs are in place of a stock standard taillight)

Any suggestions on what I should check next?

All I can sugest is check all the wiring, grounds etc. Here is a schematic of the wiring.

I dearly hope that you find the problem.
In my case, my Audiovox cruise control quit on me a few years ago ... and ... after going through numerous test, checks, etc. decided to forget about it hoping that I'd get a "Eureka" idea later on down the road. I never did and purchased another assembly from someone else a few weeks ago. I'll install that servo this winter ... hoping that everything will be back to normal when I try it this spring.
Good luck!

mine final quit on me after 6 yrs and 100k miles. Something went south in the servo and the purple wire had melted some at the large white plug. I bought a new one from murphskits for 170 total and had it 3 days later. Installation was easy I did replace everything but my vac res. and now back on the road with a big grin.

I have had my cruise installed for 7 years now and last summer I noticed that it would fail every now and then.  I have been thinking of changing mine out to the newer electronic version that doesn't require a vacuum canister.  Has anyone installed one.  Do you know if it is the same wiring?

I've been thinking about changing mine out as well to the New Electronic one that doesn't require a Vac Reservoir. I had the same issues with my Audiovox, and I purchased the electronic "Rostra" I think it was called now, to put in a car, but didn't end up using it there. Now I have that available if I need to switch out the Audiovox. I'm wondering if it is the same wiring diagram? Has anyone installed one of these yet?

Did you ever get this figured out, forjj? I would check the vacuum lines first.

Fred.

I wanted to update on my Cruise Control. It took a bad wheel bearing to motivate me to look for the cruise control problem.   It turns out the cable that connects to the throttle linkage broke.  There was a loop around the left side throttle linkage, and it broke at the cable clamp.
I had the bike torn apart last weekend to find out what the noise was from the rear.  Turns out I needed a wheel bearing, but while I had the rear apart, I decided to change the air filter, lube the  splines, new rear tire, change the drive oil, new dampeners, and of course new wheel bearings.

I am amazed at the information that is available on this site, I couldn't have done it without all of the previous posts, troubleshooting guides, breakdowns, drawings, etc.  I would still be trying to re-install the u-joint (only backwards) if I didn't read that it will only install one way.

This site is the greatest!
