Has anybody used one of the saddlebag stabilizers in the threads shown below? How well does it work? What size did you use, 25 or 31cm width? Thanks!

I don't recall ever reading about anyone on this site ever using one of those before.

What kind of bags do you have that you're thinking about using one of those for?

It's not needed on the Valkyrie, the bags don't move. It's because the bag mount is fastened together in the same general fashion as that bar. The OEM brace connects both sides and is bolted together. They just don't move, if they do you have problems with incorrect installation.

I used the ones from Mutazu on a set of Mustang bags. I had installed the bags with easy brackets and didn't like the shaking. I used the 31 mm ones on my Valkyrie. I used them on these bags . They did pretty good at keeping the bags from shaking.

Good morning BF! Well I pulled the trigger and bought Tsukayu leathered strong bags for my 97. They should be here this week. I'm concerned that the bags be as solid as possible and thought the U shaped mounting might add to that end. After the bags are mounted, I'll see what the situation is like and will keep a photo log of the project.

We have communicated in the recent past about mounting systems as I'm impressed with the Mustang bag system on your bike and I really appreciate what you've been able to share. I'm planning on mounting Mustangs on my 98 this summer and decided to use a modified National Cycle Cruiseliner bag mount. Again I'm concerned that the bags be as stable as possible, thus considering the U shaped mount also. I'll keep a photo log of this project too and will share when It's complete.

Good morning David! You have also shared with me your experiences mounting Mustang bags on your Valks, thank you! As I communicated to BF, I want to do whatever is necessary, within reason, to make sure my new bag systems are solidly in place. I've read a previous post where you used a U shaped mount to minimize the movement on your bike with the Easy Mounts. Did the 31cm mount fit well? Do you have any photos of it on your bike before you sold it?

I've decide against using the Easy Mounts because of your experience and my own on a previous cycle. They work but don't keep the bag from moving some. Also, I would like to keep the bags as close as possible to the fender.  I'm going to use a system similar to what BF created to mount his Mustang bags. National Cycle has a 5/8 inch frame (solid steel) for a valk application that one can weld some upper and lower horizontal flat bar pieces to it and allow for solid bag attachment and keep them close to the bike.
I'll keep you apprised of the outcome and post my progress. Thanks again for your comments.

I agree John, it (the U shaped mount) would not be needed if one had OEM mounts and bags. However, I'm starting from scratch and want to affix after market bags to my bikes as solid as I can make them, that's why I'm asking.

I've always wanted to say how much I like your bike, very nice job.  cooldude

I looked and couldn't find any pictures. The 31 mm did ok. I believe if I had used a different mount instead of the easy bracket the u bolt wouldn't be needed. Like you said, mount them and then decide if it is needed. I mounted the u bolt as far under the tire as I could. Couldn't hardly see it unless you was looking.

Salty, thanks for the compliment. As for the bags, I didn't realize your setup wasn't going to be OEM. The bar will come in handy in that case. Looking forward to some pics when done.  cooldude

i just got some bags also i got a set of the leather valkyrie bags and mounts from john for a great price but i have allways kept a eyeout for a set of oem bags a few weeks ago a guy had listed a set of national cycle cruiseliner bags with there mounts for a valkyrie in brand new condition and they didnt need paint cause there allready black for 300 and being at there website they run as much as 900 plus 150 for mounts i got a great deal i like them due to the fact that my trips are short and didnt need a huge bag there mounts look ok but that brace might help what i would like to buy is a set of the front OEM bag stays dont want the whole wrap arround mount setup just the front parts in case the bike goes over just a bit of protection wouldnt hurt but if the ational cycle mounts dont cut it i might modify the OEM leather honda mounts to fit them of course i will lose out on the 1/4 turn quick disconnect setup that comes with the bags when new time will tell

Keep an eye on those 1/4 turn things. When I had those bags I had an issue with them coming loose. I eventually got to where I would use a piece of duck tape to hold the D ring down, and keep it from turning.

LOL!  I discovered that at seventy-five mph on the wife's bike.  Cost me an arm and most of a leg to replace those bags.

You can mitigate that weakness by placing rubber washers behind the bag to maintain pressure against the clips.  I let mine (hers) wear too thin.
