The last few times I've been in Walmart, I've noticed that they have no 4 qt. jugs of Rotella full synthetic and maybe a quart of two of it in the single quarts.  Anyone know if Walmart is discontinuing it?  I've  been to three different Walmarts with the same results.

My Walmart (Yreka, CA) sucks.  They are out of stuff all the time, that maybe your problem too.

Not just oil WM seems to keep a very small inventory. Never any VCR tapes  I walk through the media department, no tapes, when home I order some on-line and the store calls me the next day or two when they arrive.
I buy oil, tapes and a couple other items when they are in stock not when needed. I never complain I don't think the employees have much to do with ordering.

Noticed the same thing about Rotella 5w40 synthetic at WW. Seems it is popular but for whatever reason WW reserves only a small space for it. It has been $21.36 for several years now but I did pick up a couple of jugs at Tractor Supply on sale for $19.99.
With 3 Valks I always try to stay a couple of gallons ahead.  Wink

I would guess it's a "follow the money" answer as to why they don't stock more of the Rotella. My guess is they have a higher profit margin on the other oils.

It's their (WalMart) inventory status sheets and poor upkeep by the managers. The stores automatically get reorders when the status sheets reach the reorder threshold. In these cases their sheets are still indicating enough quantity on hand. You'd have to get really (in person) with the department manager to have them straighten out the particular item on the inventory sheet. They prolly don't give a crap.

WalMart is the champion of "just in time" inventory.  The goal is to keep minimial stock.  Basically the stock is limited to what is on the shelf or on the truck in-route.  To remove the human factor the computers are supposed to track the status of the stock via the scan code.  There is something wrong in the software or theft is very high.  Although I think it would be tough to steal a gallon jub of oil.  In rural areas (like the State of Jefferson) they can get away with running out of stock because customers will post pone their purchase until the stock is available.

Very common experience at Wally. If you see it, you better buy two because the next guy is going to clean out their stock. Also been my experience that lager stores carry more inventory. You could also use Mobil 1 15W50, I'm starting to like it better than Rottela T6. Both excellent lubricants IMO.

I went back in yesterday, they had one 4 qt jug in stock, and  6 quart bottles.  I might switch to the Mobil One synthetic diesel oil, but not sure yet.

Gotta remember too that 5W40 Rotella is a diesel oil & I know that it takes 12-15 qrts to change oil in Ford Powerstroke diesel trucks. One truck oil change & the meager shelf stock is wiped out!  Shocked

I have a 97 Valkyrie with 92,000 on it and NOTHING'S been done to the engine or transmission except routine maintanance I'm the third owner and the youngest owner was 49 years old. It's ALWAYS had Mobil I 15-50 that's bought at Advance Auto for over $7 a quart but they always have it.It's ridden about 7000 miles a year so I change it and the filter once a year.
BTY; does anybody know if 97 Valkyries have nitrated rings?

Wal-Mart is a POS inventory system. Point of Sale. The barcode scanners report to their computer system each time an item is sold. They have automatic ordering when their inventory is reduced to a preset number. It would be my assumption that like most box stores today they don't hold much in their storerooms especially if an item is not a fast mover. I don't even think of wally world as my supplier for this stuff. To get to my wally world here I drive by NAPA, Auto Zone, O'Reily's and two Advance Auto stores. Now if I am at wally world shopping for something else I will hit the automotive and sporting goods sections. Not only that wally world will drop a vendor contract on a moments notice, leaving the customer to go else where any way.

that's 'cause wally world forces distributors to give them the "below profit" price on products forcing manufactures to refuse to sell products that they won't make money on.  if you really want to buy a product realize that they've got to make money to stay in business, so STOP SHOPPING WAL-MART!!

It ain't what Mr Walton wants, he passed away a few years back, and his kids are not smart enough to run the business.    They have a CEO for that purpose..

We have an o' reilly auto parts store - advance auto - auto zone all within a 5 minute drive of one another and I'll still shop at wally world for my oil and filters for my car/truck/bike everytime.  Why would I do that?  Simple at auto zone or advance auto parts the same 5QT bottle of valvoline for my car is 26 bux and the same thing at wally world is only 16.50 (actually cheaper than that in the store)

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Valvoline-5-lts-SAE-10W-30-Premium-Conventional-motor-oil/_/N-26qq?itemIdentifier=794464_0_0_

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Valvoline-Premium-Conventional-10W30-Motor-Oil-5-Quart/15125790

I would prefer to spend that extra 10 bux on something I can use verses throwing it away at auto zone.   The shell rotella t6 synthetic oil for the bike is 21.36 at wally's as well or the semi synthetic t5 is 16....still not a bad deal if you need oil.

A lot of misplaced hate for poor 'ol WallyWorld on the internet these days.
I used to think that way a bit until I stepped back & looked at the big picture. They used to have an ad slogan that said "spend less, live better" or something like that.
I read an article that spoke of the results of a study of the impact of spending less on the staples of life & how much it helped the poorer families. The lower prices at WM makes a significant positive contribution to the quality of life of a lot of working folks.
We've all heard & seen the bad side of WM & some of their business practices but as much as some may want to ignore it, there is another side.
There is good & bad in most every business. The nice thing is unlike the government's policies, Wal-Mart can't force you to shop there.

Well said TT, well said. Too many have an ignorant and/or an uninformed view of WalMart and business in general. Like they think no other stores carry anything produced in China.

Oh well, a lot of low information opinions being expressed these days.

My only gripe regarding WalMart is they seemed to have stop carrying Mobil 1 15W50. Either that or Mobil stopped making it. I've been using Mobil 1 10W40 without issue though.

All the best,

I switched to canola oil. Available at every walmart AND dollar general store. They are never out. And it's way cheaper than motor oil. I think it increased my horsepower by at least 12.

With the luck I've had with Menard's, they can go straight to hell and don't collect $200 as you pas go.

I could almost write a book on their dealings.

I'll only bore ya with 1 job.

Laid a 20 X 40 slab.      Went up to the store, and went to the lumber dept.   Asked the guy if I gave him my garage dimensions if they could figure out all the material I'd need.    Yes sir, we have a computer program that will give us the requirements.     Said OK, 1 walk in door, and a double overhead door,  NO windows, want 3 skylights.    Paid them for the material and they were to deliver it th next day before noon.

Noon came and went, called them and asked what was going on.    Were short handed and the truck was being loaded as we spoke.     Said OK, I'll wait on it.

Truck showed up, I showed them where the material was to be put and I had to leave for a Dentist appt.    Would be back in 30 minutes.    Got back, they were unloaded and gone, my carpenter was there and was he pissed......     They only had 1/2 enough lumber, no shingles, no skylights but I did have 3 big windows.

Called them up and told them they had screwed up.    They told me that was impossible, the computer program is very accurate.    I told him it was no more accurate than the party putting in the requirements.    Told him no skylights, but I did have 3 great big windows, which they could come by and pickup up some time, like when they brought all the lumber I'd need and the shingles.   He said I loaded those singles so I know they are there.         About 3 days after we needed the skylights they hadn't shown up yet, called them and told them to cancel them off the needed material.

We were 6 weeks puttin up a firkin garage that should have been up enclosed and wiring run in that length of time.   I don't know who was pissed them most, me or my carpenter.      Ended up Menard's did finally refund me $400 for all the hassle.    Told them if they thought that would get me back in their door, then could think again, and I have stuck to my guns, ain't went in their door.

My truck needed the oil changed today and we went after some 5W30 for it @ Wally World.

I took the shop truck to get it, our normal guy was out and his shipment wouldn't be in till Wednesday.   Then we will stockpile our shop needs.

Walked in, grabbed a 5 qt jug and a single quart, went up and paid $36.00 for the jug and the single.

Was a Happy Camper  cooldude cooldude cooldude as they usually charge $8 and change a qt.

Old thread, I know.  My local Walmart had gallon jugs of Rotella T6 today.   I can't find Mobil1 15w-50 at my Wally world, they no longer carry it, but I could have had it shipped to the store if I wanted. If you're not in a hurry, you can order it online, and have it shipped to the store for pickup at no extra charge.  But it can take a little time.  They ship it within their own system, not via UPS.

Great info regarding Wal Mart and Mobil 1 15W50. I'll likely start using Mobil 15W50 in my Moto Guzzi again this Summer.

I went back to Walmart yesterday where I had spotted 4 quarts of Mobil I 15/50 three days ago on shelf. They were still there; only 4 quarts so I bought them for fear if I waited until my filter gets here, the Mobil I would be gone and it would probably be a while before Walmart re-stocked shelf
$6.97 per quart.

I have 3 yes 3 wallywurlds within 26 miles of my lacasa. Can't seem to find the Mobil 1 synthetic 15-50 there anymore. My O'reillys on the other hand puts it on sale every so often. I've got 4 qts left and i believe it was a smidge less than $7.00 a qt on sale. I've used the Shell Rotella 15-40 dino before and wallywurld always has that available. Wallywurld normally has a better price on additives than O'reillys. But ever so often O'reilly does come up with a wurld beating sale price on additives. And if you do go to the wallywurld in West Plains Mo. midweek you would swear it was a weekend day there.  2funny Should have seen that parking lot the 2 weeks before Christmas.  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

Rotella is Diesel oil.  What does it do for a VAlK?
It wont have the same detergent ratings.
