I left Woodland Park on June 5th, went east into Colby, Kansas, then took HWY 24 to Cawker City (home of the World's LArgest Ball of Twine) then up to HWY 36. Stayed the first night in St. Joseph, MO. Great day, 80 degrees and sunny. Woke to thunder, but just missed the rain and rode in mostly cloudy, warm weather....for the most part. Stopped at J&P Cycles in Anamosa, IA. Cool store, lots of stuff and good service. Continued on my way to the Milwaukee area. As I got further north, it got colder. When I arrived at my buddies house near Cedarburg, WI that evening, it was raining and 46 degrees. Stayed cool and rainy for a few days. Left on the 10th to meet up with my wife in Madison, WI and had a great ride past Holy Hill ( I believe that is Black Dogs stomping grounds). Stayed a few days in the Madison area. Left Madison early on the 14th and stayed in Kearny, NE. Another great day of riding, although mostly Interstate to make time. On the 15th, I headed south into Kansas on HWY 183 to HWY 24 into Colby, then I70 to Limon, CO. I managed to avoid a tornado in Colorado east of Denver. Back home at 2:00pm. Total miles traveled: 2,342.70 Total gallons burned: 59.15 Average MPG: 39.6 Experience: Priceless!! BTW, I'm thinking of applying for an Iron Butt award. It's not the first time I've gone on a trip such as this, but the first time I've documented it. Is it worth the $50.00?
