I have a 2000 I/S. As I was leaving the house driving down my road my motor died. I tried to restate with no success and ran my battery down. Now the part I don't care to admit, as I was pushing the bike back home I thought about checking to see if the gas was off. Sure enough gas off. I turned the gas back on and push started the bike. After this happened my radio quit working. I have checked the fuse for the radio and it is good. Any suggestions?

Not sure about your radio but I can relate to the gas valve shut off.
Couple of months ago a few Harley riding buddies and I were going for a ride. We're meeting at Sams about 2 miles from my house. Cranked the bike up in the shop and pulled it in the driveway, cut it off and went inside to get the rest my cool Valkyrie gear. Cranked it up and noticed it didn't seem to be running properly but thought it just needed to warm up but the farther away from the house the worse it was running. Halfways to Sams I decided this ain't gonna work so I made the block and headed back to the house. It died out just as I pulled into the drive. CRAPS
Figured I'd check a thing or to before I call the others that I'm not going to make it. That's when I noticed the gas valve off!!
It's amazing how good these things run when they have fuel.
Oh, good luck finding your radio problem.

Welcome Rick. Your sig line is funny considering..........
Anyway, When you say the radio quit can you be more specific? Is it just the radio or is the entire display out? You might just have to go through and reset some settings since the battery was completely dead. Are you trying to listen through the speakers or helmet. It might just be that it went back to whatever the default setting is, etc. Give us some more info.

If you ran the battery down that far the radio most likely lost all the settings and it defaulted back to off, and clock. If the battery is real dead, it won't push start either the EMU needs power to make spark.

Thanks for the feed back. The radio is out not muted and i can't control the volume or channels. The clock is displaying the wrong time and I can't adjust it. I am glad to see that I am not the only one to admit leaving the gas valve off.

Try the simple things first. Is the power on?

I would disconnect the battery and let it set for several minutes. While there, I would check connections.
It is conceivable that the radio might have incurred damage from a voltage variation during the extended cranking / battery depletion. I have it happen to me on radio equipment (not Valk). I was pretty much told it shouldn't have happened....
Good Luck!

Problem solved. The power was not on. I found a power function button just above the power to talk button. I was not aware of this button. As I was pushing the bike home I must have unknowingly hit it. F6banbger looks like you nailed it.

I am way smarter than you. My bike would start and then die. Restart and then die. So I call a friend, go get my trailer and as I start to push the bike up the ramp I see my trip meter says 142 miles!!! Turn the petcock to reserve and drive that badboy up on the trailer It didn't affect my radio either, wait I don't have a radio .

As I said. It defaults to "off" AKA turn it back on. I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me.

Turn the pwr. switch back on. It's located next to the push-to-talk button on the left side of the handlebar radio control module.

Glad you figured it out. Sometimes it is the simplest things that we just don't see. Thanks for posting the issue and fix, no matter how it makes us look. Always learning something new on this board. Looks like the Parish is slowly filling up with Valks. Fuzzy Mark

If it makes you feel better, a long time ago a different bike of mine died at a railroad crossing and wouldn't do anything. When my bother in law showed up to load it in his pickup, he noticed I had bumped the kill switch while I was fiddling around waiting for the train to pass. It HAD to be my brother in law.....

Ah, I can one up ya on that! I kept running out of gas on my Vmax. It seemed like every time I went for a ride I was calling for someone to bring me gas. So I got fed up and asked on the VMAX board "Why is it that when my low fuel light comes on I don't have but 2-3 miles to get to a station to get gas?" The response? . The reserve switch is on the handlebars, have you tried switching it to reserve? I knew it was there once upon a time.. Duh

Wanna hear something funny. I know of someone, (wont mention any names) who complained about the bad milage on their valkyrie. This person wanted more milage per tank. They had the place were they worked cut the reserve tube down. Now this person gets more miles per tank but has very little reserve. No wonder why they always run out of gas. They ended up putting on a belly tank. Saw recently the bike is up for sale in the classifieds.

Have had to use reserve switch twice since ran out of gas on regular fuel tank line while driving my I/S. Both times about 5-6 miles before my cycle died the power was robbed and cruising at 60 mph seemed to be sluggish if I wanted to crank the throttle to go faster on a level smooth road. Bike engine died about 3 miles to the nearest town for gas. I pulled off the road and turned the reserve switch on and fired right up. Got to the gas station 3 miles away and sure enough, the fuel reserve on an I/S is pretty darn accurate at .90 gallons. Put 6 gallons in and tank I believe is 6.9 gallons. Good to know there is a reserve offering at least about 22-25 more miles of driving before your pushing or calling a friend for a trailer. I doubt you could get 30 more miles on reserve but might be possible since most of us get 34-36 avg mpg in my opinion. Still better than most vehicles on the road similar to a 1.8L toyota corolla we had geting on avg. 35 mpg as well and twice the mpg as my truck getting 17 mpg. But, my new to me 250cc scooter gets 62 mpg but is suppose to get 71 mpg but I am heavier than most 'scooter' riders plus at only 2.2 gallons with no reserve, I wouldn't want to drive anything more than 125 miles but at least I can push the scooter home if need be unlike the Valk. Looking forward to spring when I can ride the scoot some as well to/from work only issue is it might make my VAlk a little jealous??

rickeym, do you have the owners manual?
I scanned the section for the radio controls if you don't have it. I just checked Dag's website, and it's noy posted with the manuals.

gordonv, I scanned my manual and didn't find much regarding the radio. I will have to say I didn't know about the power switch. I am glad I found it.
