Ever wanted to run the old Route 66 start to finish with a good group of Bikers?
Now's your chance & for a good cause.  I hope to see several VRCC folks on the road.
Check us out at http://www.ridefortherelay.com/

All proceeds go to Cancer Research.
Riders cover their own expenses; (we do get some attractive lodging rates,  though).

Hope to see many of you at Navy Pier / Chicago ... we leave on Sept 5th!  Saddle up the Valks!

My ride schedule for this year is rather filled up and pre committed but if I knew when you would be hitting AZ my lady and I would join you for at least that portion of the trip.

If you need any info about route 66 through AZ feel free to contact me.  Several must stops are the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook and La Posada Resort in Winslow.  The La Posada is one of the last Harvey House restaurants and hotels to be built and was designed by Mart Coulter who also did several structures along the Grand Canyon.  If you were coming through at the end of the month you would be in Winslow for the standing on the Corner in Winslow fest.

For five years I did the Route 66 Cruise from Seligman to Oatman in my 57 Chevy along with about 1000 other equally inspired car nuts.  When politics changed that event I stopped.  Last year we did most of the AZ portion of Route 66 on my Valk.  I have favorite spots along the way but then again I am sure others do also.

For 23 years I worked in downtown Chicago.  My office was on Adams and Wabash, across from the Palmer House.  On the corner of Adams and Michigan avenue which is across from the Art Institute there is a sign honoring that point as the beginning of Route 66

Let me know if I can help with info or anything.

Check out the website; the entire ride is posted with each day's lodging.  Not everyone does the whole trip, so you won't be alone if you choose to join in a day or two.

Anyone who wants to be a sponsor can get details on the website; the site will also track the team throughout the trip.

CRUZEN - Look me up if you join in for part of the ride or make it to Navy Pier (look for the Red & Black I/S).

That's one of my "dream rides", one end of 66 to the other. Not this
year, though. Sad

bashfulbobVRCCDS -

Dream ride? Mine too!
It's in its fourth year.  The last I talked to Rodger (the founder) he plans on doing it every year until they find a cure.  Hopefully this is the last year ... otherwise it usually starts the first Saturday of Sept. at Navy Pier and the website address doesn't change.

B,

YOu won't see me at Navy Pier because I now reside in AZ but there's a very good chance you'll see me and the my black Interstate on part of the AZ trip.  I'll check that schedule and see if I can fit in somewhere.

B,
I just checked the schedule and you will be in Holbrook on Saturday the 12th.  And then leave there to Kingman on Sunday.  I'll be able to do that portion of the trip.  I'll be making reservations at my favorite places along that route.

Keep me posted if anything changes.
Contact me by email if you need anything.

Several additional things.  First, can I hand you a check for the entrance fee when I see you or do I need to mail it in.  Secondly I see that you need a ride leader for Arizona.  I can volunteer for that if you would like.  I can prepare local maps and discuss what local features the participants may want to see and experience.  If so I need to know how many hours you want to cover on the bikes and how many miles you plan on covering in that time period and what the meal considerations should be.  There is a lot to see out here.

Again, feel free to contact me via email

Actually, all those items should be addressed with Rodger Fox (ride founder) he has a bullentin board and contact info at the website (www. RidefortheRelay.com).  Also, answers to most of your questions are on the wesite.  He has the whole trip laid out with daily mileage and hotels etc.
