Could use some help with my forks.

I had noticed, toward the end of summer, my forks were making a sharper clunk than normal. Clunk got worse into fall, sounded like something was loose. I put off looking into it figuring I'll be changing the front tire and doing winter maintenance when I can't ride. I started taking things apart today, thinking my steering head bearing was loose. When I took the front wheel off, the bolt from the bottom of the rt fork came out and the oil started to leak out. Now that I have the rt fork off the bike, I was wondering if the bolt can be put back, tightened and the fork refilled with oil without taking the hole fork apart? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might get lucky and "Find" the threads inside the fork. They might also be stripped internally in which case you'll need a new dampener. My guess is that someone rebuilt the forks and didn't get that bolt tight enough. There should also be a crush washer on that bolt. May/May not need a new one. Get a manual and/or help and remove the fork and do it right. If the seal wasn't leaking, just drain, clean and refill with new 10W oil after reinstalling the lower bolt.

Until you get a manual here is a picture to help you see what the inside looks like.
The picture is in Shoptalk.

Thanks to those who responded. I had some issues while trying to put it back together and ended up taking it to the dealer to get it done right (I hope). Thanks again, this forum is GREAT!
