I have  a standard with the sweetest sounding pipes of all time... the viking headers ..and with their needles....per dyno sheets     I go from 93 hp   to 106 hp      I talked with Bob    the "attic rat"   who does an extensively researched head milling , port /polish  carb rebuild and airbox mod  and piston  shaving to bring a stock motor to 108 HP with stock pipes      my question is ....do i send some stock cams off to be ground to an archived  recommendation of a 280 duration and 340 lift...and if I do do I need to rejet the carbs to what?..or go with Bob and mill the heads 60 thousandsth and port and polish and get the pistons cut  and keep my carbs as is and headers  ...and rejet the carbs to what??

106 hp is pretty impressive, I think the best move from there would be a supercharger, there are several on the board who have done it.  A kit is available. This is my completly stock dyno run,  enough for me.  Hoser  cooldude

Hey, Rocketray~  Talk to your engine builder, cuz if everything does not go together, you're just throwing $ at it.  That's everything from  air cleaner to exhaust.  Good luck, Gary

There is an old saying that still holds over from my racing days way back when. How fast do you want to spend??  2funny Horsepower in any application OTHER than stock costs lotsa loot.  Wink Hence my question. 106 H P-i'd be happy. BUT i do understand completely. Hoser's suggestion sounds the best. Blower bike. Prepare your credit cards for the upcomong shock.  crazy2 RIDE SAFE.

I've seen and heard Attic Rat's bikes first hand....go with his work. You won't regret it.

well the deal is     his 3 years of research pain stakingly evolved   the attic rat    involves stock headers     and I have that gain with my headers.....which make the Hardly guy's  weep ...and the shriek and howl at high RPM remind me of at 12 years old old  of some inline 4 in a Lotus XI my dad had......witch I started with some regularity ....to the neighbors  bemusement     makes me want to keep my awesome headers......and if every valkyrie rider heard would .....be lightening struck

I think then, the question you must ask yourself is, do you want an awesome sounding bike, or do you want a bike with increased drivability and power.

Viking never did cams. I have a set of custom Web cams that were On Greg Kedera's Godzilla valk. i never ran them. I bought the bike from him when he wrecked it. I'll have to look up the specs. I think I have them somewhere.

Bob did my '98 a little over a year ago and I am more than happy.  If you want improvement in everyday real world driveability and a noticeable power increase across the RPM range then I have no problem recommending Bob.  Any exhaust pipe improvements should only enhance his work, but he could give you better advice on that.  If you are trying to create only an imressive Dyno sheet then I agree with others that you should look into Supercharging and get ready to spend a LOT of money...
Good luck either way!

As my daily rider I would disagree with that. It's much more than a dyno sheet - at all rpm's. Not an inexpensive mod if you're buying new but used ones show up now and again at decent prices.
