I put on cobra floor boards and can't get a happy medium on the shifter. The instructions said to move the shifter up sme notches. I have moved it up and down and am not happy. Upshift is O-K , but my toe hits the valve cover and restricts down shift. ( no, shaving my foot down is a last resort )    I looked in the tech board and found no help. Is there an extension or do I make one. I am not in favor of a heel - toe shifter. THANKS!

Your problem might be related to shoe size. My 11's fit under and over the shifter but don't have very thick soles. I use Apinestar boots. The shifter from a CBR1100XX has a shifter the extends the position up and out a bit. Do a search for the shifter mod.

I've used the 1100 Honda shifter on my Valk.  I did go one step further and modified the leg off the shifter as I drilled it out so I could install any shift peg and that works great. I have a Honda CBX1100 shifter and a Kuryyakken shift peg but you can also use any other peg that bolts on with the lever leg drilled out.

I have a heel/toe shifter and I love it with the cobra boards and lowering kit.
I have to believe that once one gives the heel/toe a fair trial, they would not go back.
I really hated the peg shift when I first got my Valk and could not wait to get rid of it.

I can see thicker souled boots causing issues.  Easiest fix is just to wear basic tennis shoes.  Size 11 normal size for me never have any issues, but guessing would have issues shifting with boots on.

I have MC Enterprises floor boards that had a heel toe that I took off. I had space issues with the  stock shifter and floorboards. I tried the CBX1100 shifter and didn't like it because it is longer than the  stock one. The extra length actually increased the travel necessary to shift.

So my solution was to bend the stock shifter to kick it out about an inch. You have to bend each end an equal amount in opposite directions until you get the offset you want.  This moves it out from under the head a little and in effect shortens it a bit. I also cut off the guard. With it being farther from the exhaust it is not really needed. Works just fine now with boots on.

Here is the only pic I have right now.
